I like to keep stuff, whether I hoard or not is (not) up for discussion. I know a lot of things will come in useful or will be needed so I keep them. I will get rid of things, happily but only after I'm ready. Forcing the issue is horrendous and actually quite traumatic. I became very very ill having someone enter my space and removing my things, telling me what I could and couldn't keep. Stressful doesn't begin to describe it. It is actually painful and extremely distressing. Unless you feel this way too you won't be able to understand. We can become emotionally attached to things, we like the security of knowing they are there. Having it all removed is like having a piece of yourself pulled out. Yes we heal but wow it's a horrible feeling.
We don't all feel better afterwards and personally those kind of books make me feel anxious and angry, so if you are planning on giving them, I'd check about how they feel about them first.
I understand that sometimes things must be sorted, this is just an insight as to how horrendous this process can be on the person you are 'helping'. Be patient, be kind, be gentle please.
P.s we've had to replace most of the things I was forced to get rid of as it turned out, yes, we did actually need them in the end.

Thank you for your reply - yes I'm so aware that it's making her very sad and stressed to get rid of things - she keeps saying they are her memories and my heart goes out to her to see her stressed, but when there is no space to actually walk in her room and she has to climb over stuff to get to her clothes we had to do something.
On a positive note today she has bagged up all her summer clothes and said they can go in the top cupboard over the stairs.
She also brought ALL her books downstairs into the dining room and went through them I gave her three shelves in the dining room bookcase just for her books. Cuddly toys are going to be a massive job we've got a net hammock and we can attach that to the ceiling for them all to go in but there really are hundreds.

I have every sympathy for you.
I can’t bear clutter or mess.
Does she read?
If so then I’d suggest The Art of Discarding by Nagasaki Tatsumi and The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.

it’s about learning to let go of stuff and living with less.

I’ve just encouraged my husband to have a massive clear out, he knew that it was distressing for me to have so much unnecessary stuff in the house.
I took suitcases of jumpers, jeans, boots and coats to The House of Bread and his suits and shirts went to Suited For Success in Birmingham (a charity that provides suits for people who want to get back into work, have an interview but nothing to wear).
Anyway now that he’s started he’s realising the freedom in letting go and is keen to keep going.

I wish you luck @arthur

Thanks Carole, no, her reading is not good - she's ok reading on the internet. but doesn't read grown up books. She has loads of beano books which she does not want to part with so I've given her some space in the dining room book case for them. I had a quick look on amazon for the declutter books you suggested it may help me to read them and explain them to her in British sign language. We discovered 10 umbrella's yesterday and about ten tea tree oils all full. She has been better today since we discovered them and she now has an umbrella draw in the hats, gloves and scarfs set of draws under the stairs. I agree that everything should have a place it makes it so much easier to find anything..

Well a pretty uneventful match. Might have been exciting to those watching on TV with the VAR and all but to those of us actually at the match we had no idea what the hell was going on. Although it ruled in our favour twice, I bloody hate the way VAR is at the moment.

Anyway thanks to the fixture list we'll be seeing the year out in Formby so lots of walks along the dunes and along the beach to look forward to for the next week or so whilst the Mrs does some work :D

Think I might learn how to play the ukulele.
Haven't experienced VAR at a match yet as we've been in the Championship since it came out.

But a match was on the pub telly the other night with the VAR . Realised then how frustrating and confusing it must be to be watching in the stadium with it.

Had a phone call (albeit a drunken one that I couldn't understand  ) from my brother that I hadn't heard off for over a year.

Sort of understand the bit about he was telling one of his kids that , in a photo years ago in our parents garden, I looked like the younger Suzi Quatro.... (Just googled her ....hope I don't look like her now  )

Glad son had the sense not to go into town after midnight with the rest of his mates after his house party as he has work later tomorrow...

BUT...pity he can't beam me some of his takeaway food over now it's finally arrived....... he ordered 2 Dominoes Pizzas, app said it had been delivered and when he tried ringing the store to say it hadn't, it was closed. So ordered food from deliveroo . Walked half hour walk to petrol station in the pitch black out in the sticks for baccy as deliveroo wasn't due for over an hour. Just got to petrol station and Dominoes says he's outside house, an hour after it had been logged as delivered.... son tells him to leave by his car. So gets back to 2 pizzas outside house, soon followed by burger & chips and another pizza delivered by deliveroo

Plenty of pizza to warm up now for his breakfast and tea for the next few days

In the meantime , after only having a crumpet for my tea, sat starving supping my cider watching a crap 'highlights of Glastonbury' whilst hubby is snoring his sober head off in bed .

I'll start my new year on thursday :)

One thing about Pizza is you can puke it up after a session, and still eat it the next day as it doesn't look that much different.

TMO works well for Rugby Union. At the first class and international matches where it is used the footage is shown on a big screen at the ground so that everyone can see the different views of the incident being looked at and you can usually hear most of the ref's discussions with the other match officials via their mics. Generally regarded as working well.

Enjoying a drop of red.

That's how it should be in football.

Back to work today. Drive to Leamington Spa at this hour although quiet, is a pain. It's too much for me so work from home tomorrow.

Started the year off yesterday with sore throat, bad cough and earache. Attending the GP appointment later ,that it's took me months to get , for my review. Hoping she can at least give me something to prevent my ears going into their full blown infection, as has ofter happened in the past, at the same time.
Got another shot at getting my ears sorted out straight after the GP appointment, when I attend the nurses review for exactly the same thing I have to see the GP for, but 'they ' insist the nurse has to also do to tick a few boxes on her screen

Well...that was embarrassing...had to ring the garage today , to check they had transferred the car service over to their new diary. Think they must have thought it was a prank call. Opened my mouth to speak and lost my voice. Eventually managed to get the message across with a few croaks :embarrass:

MOT passed again today , was hoping it didn't so i could justify buying another car .
That's the 4th year in a row !

Not bad for what some people would say ' a pile of scrap' , but its all paid for and owes me nothing and just keeps on going ;)

..... maybe next year :D
