Coming up to 41 years for me , after smoking 40+ a day from 16 when everyone was chain Smoking at work to when I met hubby when I was 23.

A mate at work once had a hubby in Stafford old hospital and said that all kids at school should be taken around the ward he was in.Said seeing all those blokes struggling to breath would soon put people off smoking for life.

Ciggies nearly killed me once , slinging a fag end out of the car whilst driving back down the M6 after seeing hubby to be.
Blew back in and set fire to the newspapers Id thrown on the back seat after taking them off my frozen windscreen earlier.

Luckily in those days there was a hard shoulder to pull over into

I gave up in April 2002. I was a heavy smoker to say the least and definitely a fan of smoking. Best thing I ever did giving up. Hated the craving and glad to be rid.

Getting rather pissed off with the local Co-op charging more than the shelf prices, and usually point it out and get a refund. Felt so ill last night that I couldn't be bothered to point out the loaf had yet again gone through at 10p too much.
This morning , as usual, had totted it up as I shopped and was suprised that the till actually came up with the correct final total......only for the girl to ring that amount in for the money received , instead of the actual higher amount I'd handed over and she'd slung quickly in the till. So of course it came up 'no change' and she just handed me my receipt and went to serve the next customer. Asked for my change, and ...."Oh yeah" .... she knew damn well exactly how much I was owed back! :ohno:

If this is the case then it is worth making a complaint to the manager or even head office, something is off and maybe they are on the fiddle.

I phoned head office a few years ago, and that was a waste of time, when son was a uni student and had a NUS discount card. The Co-op on Wildwood was listed as honouring the discount, but management insisted that store wasn't a participant.Head office said that Wildwood co-op should be honouring it. Management , when told that I'd spoke to head office, said no, it's up to them and definitely not. Asked manager to ring head office while I was there....."No !" Asked head office to ring the manager....."No , we shouldn't have to do that, he knows he should be honouring the discount cards. We've checked and it's listed"

Then suddenly signs appeared around the store informing that that store was not part of the NUS discount scheme for students.

The CO-OP in Worcester used to ask if they had a discount card , if they didn't automatically hand it over. They were quite happy to encourage the students custom.

Now , 5-6 years later , I see signs have appeared on the entrance door of Wildwood Co-op saying NUS discount cards welcome .......

I hate the Coop with a passion and that store in particular. They claim to occupy the moral high ground but are in fact even more money grabbing and rude than just about any other chain I have come across. Their prices are way too high, the quality no better than Aldi and at that store in particular the staff obviously aren't steeped in honesty and integrity.

No way will they ever get hold of my money.

Are we talking about the Wildwood branch? I use another Co-Op branch not too far away and have never had any problems, though they can be a bit slow on occasions. (I can't really comment on prices as I never use another supermarket a similar distance from the centre of town.)

A common try on is on linked 'meal deals' that go through the till at the pre discounted rate. Have experienced this at Co-ops across the country.

Can confirm.

They claim to be all about the community but actually give zero fluffs.

The shop I worked in went out its way to rip people off and make things difficult!

I've started putting my 'meal deals' through seperately now, before the rest of the shopping.

Quite often though , when I've gone back to the shelf with the assistant to show them the price , they've taken the correct label off the shelf and taken it to the till, given me the goods at that price, then anyone else after me querying the price haven't got a label to refer to...

I always go back with them as well to check the shelf price. A few years ago, some booze went through wrong. Luckily son followed the assistant back to the shelf, filmed the price and her removing the price label, then produced the video when she argued there wasn't a price label there but the till price must be correct.

(Check the weight and price of loose veg works out about ok in Tesco as well at the till. A bloke on the next till to me queried the price of his mushrooms as they had gone through far more than he was expecting. She got the girl on my till to check on her scales and there was a big difference on the scales. At least the supervisor was actually told about it at the time in Tesco ...... )

Phew! Just been reading about the Travelex Hack and Tesco customers not getting their currency they've prepaid for.

So glad I decided against ordering sons Czech Korunas from Tesco online , as I had to order before christmas but wouldn't be available in store to pick up until January.

I needed the currency by christmas , to give him for his birthday present just after christmas .

Ordered online from Eurochange in the Guildhall instead ( to get a better rate than over the counter ,as pointed out by their cashier) as they had them in stock and I could pick them up within 60 seconds of ordering. So stood outside and ordered on my phone, and walked back in a minute later and got a fantastic rate. Even better than expecting, googling for a discount code which also worked :D

Saved £30 on their rate as well, than if I'd have ordered them from the local post office. :)

Would have been rather p*ssed off if I'd have forked out £400 and not got anything to show for it!

Talking of Travelex. I used to use the company Crown Currency Exchange for all my holiday currency. They offered fantastic rates and I never had any issues with them. In 2010 I was going to Vegas for my 40th and had arranged for all of me and my wife’s spending money, and my daughters spending money to be had through them. We got our money and flew out, 2 days later, on the news Crown Currency Exchange had gone bust. Customers had lost thousands. We were really luck as we had about 3 grand with them and we could so easily have lost it all.

Not related to currency but another brief Vegas story where luck stepped in. I went to Vegas in 2017. I usually go around my birthday in October. I love country music, that’s my thing and there was a country music festival during that week. So the dates I normally go, and a country music festival on the doorstep. Perfect, you couldn’t write it. Anyway, we came to book the plane tickets and in the end I said to my wife, you know, as much as I would love to go at that time and go to that festival, it would be 3 days at a festival and took out of our holiday and it would not be fair on you. Lets go 2 weeks earlier instead. We deliberated on this and in the end decided against going over my birthday as I didn’t want to spend a chunk of my time at a festival.

That was the Route 91 shooting on October the 1st. Without exaggeration, very grateful that I decided for once not to subject my wife to something.

Would you be kind enough to select tonight's lottery numbers for me?
