Patties & Ting - Jamaican street food.

What's the ting? I like patties but hope it's a restaurant more than a cafe. We need more diverse food options open at night.

“Ting” is a Caribbean way of saying “thing”, so perhaps it should have been called Patties and Tings”.

I walked past the other day, I got the feeling it’s going to be quite casual, more of a cafe than a restaurant.

Ting is also the brand name of a carbonated drink.

oh I see, sorry.

At a guess it might be traditional Jamaican food, Saltfish, curried goat (or chicken), rice and peas, jerk chicken, pepper pot stew etc.

Edited to say I’ve just seen the Facebook link above and my guess wasn’t far wrong.

@PeterD

That misunderstanding of mine reminded me of another occasion when a group of us had gone out for a bite to eat.
One of our party asks the waitress
“Could you please tell me, what is the soup du jour?”

“Oh I don’t know” she says “I’m new but I’ll go and find out”

she comes back after a few minutes
“You asked about the soup du jour” I’ve found out for you. It means soup of the day”
