Didn't Shopmobility hire scooters though, which as far as I am aware Ableworld and Amorcare don't do that.
Ah, I didn't realise that, that is a shame. Ableworld does hire but not from the Stafford branch and a cursory look (aka Man look) on the Internet doesn't come up with any other obvious local businesses that offer hiring mobility scooters.:(

There were lights on in there today, and all of the "Strictly for Shopmobility Customers Only" disabled parking spaces were occupied, and the parking restriction signs were still there, mounted along the fence against the Broad Street footpath.

Also, Amorcare in Crabbery Street had two mobility scooters outside at the front, with signs on that implied that they were for hire. I failed to inquire further on my way back, as I intended...

However, some details are on the Guildhall site - http://www.guildhallstafford.com/amorcare

Mobility Scooter, wheelchair Hire Service

From our Stafford Store Amorcare Mobility offer a Mobility Scooter, Wheelchair hire service. It’s £5 to join the membership for one year and once joined customers can hire the equipment on an hourly basis for £1 per hour to assist them around the town whilst shopping, or if required can hire for longer periods such as going away on holiday, or days out. All members are fully insured to use the equipment so giving piece of mind.

Isn't this extemporaneous blather rather missing the point - that the location (location, location) means that visitors with mobility issues heretofore could park up, jump on, and ride...

And spend etc...etc...

And now they can't, or even if they can they can't as easily?

I know it's easy to not GAS about people who find it difficult to move when you find it really easy, but it doesn't actually take that much imagination to picture how difficult it must be to do things that seem easy to you, that for many present real difficulties.

It's not really that much harder to actually GAS and make life easier for them.

Like having a mobility aid pick-up-point on the edge of a car park for example.

'Kin 'ell.

Scooters were being loaded into a "Disable Aids, Cannock" van just now.

And all the designated parking spaces were empty.

And the internal lights off.

It does look like it is probably over.

Possibly an opening for a vape shop there?

They were there taking things out yesterday too...

Subject to confirmation, I believe that you are (or will be) able to hire mobility scooters from Able World.

Whether it's a direct replacement for the Shopmobility scheme remains to be seen. It may be more of a "hire a scooter for a day or number of days" thing, rather than "borrow one for an hour or two for a zoom round the shops" arrangement.

Hi. We do have some scooters and wheelchairs for hire. I am not sure what is available at Stafford store currently but if you would like to give them a call on 01785 319315 they can let you know. Thanks

It'll probably be pulled down in all honesty , the building doesn't really have much of an alternative use.

Leave it sort of half open, and the junkies can die in there.

The neighbouring toilets, unencumbered by the inconvenience of littering corpses, can thus remain open at all times.

Think outside of the box, dude.

So, I went in and asked them. They do hire, but on a daily basis, £17:50 plus a £20(?) deposit, I think, and you still only get two hours in the car park, so, it's probably not much use as a replacement for the Shopmobility scheme for most people, I suspect.
