Even more of the car park has gone now.

Only about 80% of the spaces at the front left now.

The end towards the bowling alley is fenced off level with the side of the shop, up towards the zebra crossing, leaving just a thin fire-escape route.

The car park was bedlam the other day, people keep driving straight not realising the road has been blocked off and then trying to turn, holding up a que behind them and people not being able to get out the other side or people being able to pass. I will be avoiding lidl at busy times from now on.

Glad you said that. We don't normally shop there, but got a £5 off coupon , so was going to go at the weekend. Will choose my shopping times more carefully

Just found the £5 voucher I was going to use to pay Lidl a rare visit. Hadn't become valid when I originally was going to go, just checked and it's now expired yesterday. Probably won't ever bother going again ,hearing of carparking being bedlam. (Never liked parking in the carpark by the store when we did used to go years ago anyway, got close to getting a dent whilst parked each time from reversing cars and runaway trolleys. Mainly parked in the one across the road when we did go)

The (now-vandalised) car park down the side was the nicest car park in Stafford.

I've been looking at that area on Google Earth trying to orientate myself. My biggest surprise was the river, it seems little more than a brook !! (This is dated May 2017.) Decades a ago you could hire rowing boats or canoes at the back of that pub by Broadeye Bridge (can't remember its original name) and we used to row up as far as the old railway bridge on the Uttoxeter line (Clog and Knocker.) It doesn't look like it would go now if the view I'm seeing is correct.

That was it … The New Inn. Can't be excused for forgetting that as my local here is The New Inn.
The whole landscape around there was different then. Going upriver you had the gasworks on your right, and the new gasometer on your left (the one without the external support structure.) And you still had some railway traffic on the Clog and Knocker as I remember supporting the RAF camp.

We did the same on Saturday. We weren't there for a "big shop" - just for one specific item - so not too much to carry across the carpark. The traffic was dreadful when we arrived, but OK'ish when we left.

I tend to go in the evening most of the time, so it's not too bad.

And, it is still possible to park round the back, now that they've given up putting the bollard back by the delivery door - you can drive down the 'pedestrian' path that nobody ever uses. There is a low curb at the far end, but we're driving in and out of deeper potholes these days.

By the way, who keeps hiding bodies under the tarmac just at the entrance to the Lidl carpark?

The bumps are starting to show
