Isabel Trail parkrun links up with Stafford Rugby Football Club

The Core Team are delighted to announce that with effect from Saturday 8th February Stafford Rugby Football Club will become the new hub for Isabel Trail parkrun.

As well as storing our gear for us, SRFC are offering us access to free car parking, the use of their toilet and shower facilities, and they will be opening their cafeteria for the sale of hot food and drinks. This is a fantastic facility and we are extremely excited to be able to support another sports club that is located right by the start of our run.

For at least the first week the Club members will be marshaling the car park themselves, and we ask that you all follow the marshals instructions carefully. For those using Satnav the postcode is ST16 2TT.

A huge thank you goes to our friends at SRFC for offering us this opportunity and hopefully many of you wonderful parkrunners and volunteers will join us for a coffee and a bite to eat after the event to get the relationship off to a flying start.

As I said before, "we are where we are!", I don't think the pitches should have been built where they were, I can't believe it got planning permission! But it is, IMHO, great that the club will be used to assist the Park Run.I have played rugby for Stafford, twice; but my rugby was mostly played for St Georges then St Leonard's. Good news, as I have said;, the club will gain kudos. I believe they sad they wanted to provide a community resource, and this is them putting money where there mouth is. I am not naive, they are offering there catering facilities, so do deserve to profit in some way, from providing the facilities, and this shouldn't be under-estimated. I have only run once in the park run, as I'm often working, or walking my dog, but this will be a big boost for the event, which must have suffered due to Western -by-Pass work and the flooding of the Isabel Line near the Eccleshall Rd Cemetery, under the bridge!. Am looking forward to getting my trainers on again! :slayer:

Sometimes we would like to be in two places at the same time.

It's easier to be in two times at the same place.......

Sometimes it would be better if we were where we were, before we are where we now are.

This is one of those times.
As I said, this desecration should never have been allowed, BUT IT WAS, and whatever you think about the legitimacy of the legal process that was followed, IT WAS. We are where we are! Let's make the best of it, or should we just keep moaning about the whole project, and not try to see anything positive come out of it.

I know, lets campaign for the Rugby Club to be moved, there plush new club house to be demolished, and while we are at it, lets have that housing estate, on the former Venables Wood Yard relocated or knocked down as well? Lets have the Marsh returned to its former glory. and why stop at that; lets have the Stafford of the 1970's back? Stafford Rangers would be the best non-league team in the country, I would be having fantastic teenage years, ..........

Free car park? How free is that when the rug club move was financed partly by the taxpayer? Will it be free when the WAR is fully afloat?

I refer the Right Honorable Member to the Parable of the Shitted Bed.

This development should never have been allowed, and the fact THAT IT WAS, does not change that one iota. You can come the c*nt all you want, but that salient fact will never change. I reiterate that this is an actual tragedy, and one that i will not be able to see as anything else.

Hey wow! Quick kids! Now there's an entire herd of non sequiturs dancing majestically across the forum.

The Rugby Club should not have been built at that location, and the fact that it was does not mollify me in any way, and nor will it ever. Everyone else can just get on with enjoying the degradation of their environment if they so choose, but i'm not going to make the best of what makes us worse.

I don't think forum can be classed as the voice of the majority either, far from it in fact when it comes to the rugby club
Hey @Gareth , do you hear that whooshing noise? Just above your head? It's the sound of 'the point', being spectacularly missed by you, again.

It is where it is, it’s not going to change, we are a community facility and a growing one, we host two amazing charities, provide first class facilities for many hundreds of children & adults on a weekly basis, the NHS are using the facilities for training purposes and we will continue to have open dialogue with any people who have issues. Despite your one eyed protests, we get the odd thing right.
We can keeping harping on about where it is and the wrongs / rights about the decision, unless you have an exceptionally good lawyer who has a time machine and the ability to overturn judicial reviews, it’s a waste of everyone’s time keeping on dragging it up.....it’s history and that won’t change.

Any sports club / school are well within their rights to apply to Sport England for a grant. The process was followed and grant awarded. Not a cent of taxpayer money was used on the car parks.
But thank you for your note.

How many SportEngland grants are awarded to clubs whose directors are also council heads of sport?
Who paid for the carpark, then? Is it a separate business?

Wow, we really are scraping the bottom of the conspiracy theory barrel now aren’t you.

Sport England grants are centrally / national lottery funded - like everyone else we are well within our rights to apply, we did, followed the correct & rigorous process and it was granted. Are you saying Stafford BC employees can click their fingers and the bank vault opens?

The person in question was an active playing member of the club.....I would say we would have been neglectful not to utilise someone with their experience to advise in a variety of areas. Why wouldn’t we? I’m guessing you wouldn’t.

Hypothetically, if a local headmistress or headmaster of a school was an active member of say, a dance school, you’d think that person would be in a good position to advise in a safeguarding role? Utilise their skills for the benefit of the club? With your argument, you obviously wouldn’t. Ridiculous.

Who paid for the car park? You come on here, spout ill informed nonsense with zero evidence or objectivity and don’t know who actually paid for the land and construction? If you want to believe the evil rugby club has stolen taxpayer money to fund our grotesque blight on the Stafford landscape, be my guest. Or, if you want to know who actually paid for it, including the car parks, a minimal amount of research on here or available public information will answer that for you.

Strange to be accused of being a conspiracy theorist by someone who comes on here voluntarily and then never gives a straight answer to any questions.

re. grants, the problem was/is conflict of interests. It's never been explained why rugby, which was one of the few with adequate facilities according to independent research into sport in Staff, was given millions, while others with inadequate facilities didn't get a penny. If I'm spouting ill-informed nonsense, why don't you, as a person with an obligation to know what's going on with the rugby club, just supply this easily accessible info?

I have received a reply regarding the lighting report and the installation complies with the original plans
Well done.

I'm wondering if this is the best way to do things, namely to do your own digging rather than rely on someone else to provide answers, especially if that person has little to gain from providing those answers. As my mum would say, "God helps those ..... ".

I’ve given a load of straight answers, as per previous posts, I’ve been pretty much been fighting a one man argument on here. I’ve tried. I’ve supplied my rugby club email address previously and had one person kindly email me - given how passionately people seem to be on here I thought I’d have been inundated but no, one person. The club has continued to engage but with certain people, it’ll never be enough.

The club has been given millions? Where do you get that wholly inaccurate information from? No, the rugby club has been given no £££ at all. We were on leased land that we didn’t own, the town housing plan wanted the land released for housing, we had a new club and pitches built for us by the land owner. We applied for grants for the all weather pitch.

Does that clear everything up for you? Any other fantasies you’d like to put out there?

Everything has been above board, due process has been followed, people on here may disagree but the vast majority of people see it as a positive - as per the planning portal stats, for vs against.

From another horse's mouth

Director Martin Lennon said: “The legal situation is not decided. In the meantime the club has taken the decision that given the uncertainty around that, to submit a new application to the borough council.

“The judicial review could take too long and we just want to get on with it. We have a lot of grant money that is time dependent including half a million from Sport England.

“We will still move forward and still build it either way but it won’t be as good as it could be if we get all of the funding.”

He added: “It boils down to whether the old regulations or the new regulations were followed through the planning process. I can’t speak for the motivations of the residents other than to say they want to try their best to delay this.”

The project is worth £3.5m in total and would see a new clubhouse built at the new site at Doxey Marshes.

Are you making a point here? Raising a question or just trolling through old ground?

1/ the Sport England grant was exclusively for the all weather grass pitch. Tick.

2/ if you’ll remember, this did end up going to a judicial review, which the club won. Tick.

Anything else you’d like to drag up from the annals of history?
