Moving To Stafford.

Hi Everyone!

I'm thinking of moving to Stafford.

I was looking online for 1 bedroom flats earlier and they all seemed over £400pcm. I wasn't wanting to pay over £350pcm. Is that price do-able in Stafford?

Thanks!

Presumably you’re coming from Stoke, judging by your name. Places are a wee bit higher down here unfortunately.

The rental market is kinda rough, you’ll regularly find flats charging not that much less than a 3 bed house would cost.

The rent window is quite narrow around here unless you go into the extreme highs.

What's it like living in Stafford?

The town centre looks good and has most of what you want / need. I heard the nightlife is good in Stafford and what's the employment situation like?

Our local hobbies are criticising our two councils (Stafford Borough and Staffordshire County), as well about moaning about how poor our facilities are.

However, I travel around the country a lot and, in truth, Stafford is doing far better than most towns its size and better than some much bigger places.

Of course, it will all depend on what you are after.

I think a lot depends on your age in terms of whether the nightlife is good. If it’s nightclubs you’re after it’s fairly poorly served (it’s not even clear to me when that Icon place is actually open) but if you fancy sampling some good beer in pleasant surroundings you’ve a good selection.

Employment wise again it depends what you want to do! I’ve lived here 10 years and always commuted out

I'd have a good long hard think about why you wish to move Stafford. What is it your looking for? What's important? What criteria are you comparing it with?

I'm not a fan!

I hated Stafford til I moved out of Stafford. I didn't plan on returning, events transpired that necessitated it briefly, and then I didn't leave again. That was 20 years ago pretty much, I only planned on coming back for 6 months!

I think I've got the first bit of the soundtrack for that film:

And I think I will move down to Stafford
Using the music for flight
There's nothing I know of in Stafford
But it's something to do with the night
It's only a whimsical notion
To move down to Stafford tonight
And I probably won't move to Stafford
But then again, I just might

Stafford has got a number of brilliant real ale pubs, a decent selection of food establishments in town and within a short drive (soon to be two more) and some good designer shops, as well as the chain retail outlets.

I'm too old to go to nightclubs now, however there are plenty of pubs that open to midnight and provide live entertainment.

A nice park, doxey marches and not too far from the chase.

Plus, we've got the mighty Stafford Rangers fc - a semi professional club. As well as Stafford Town and Brocton for your cheap proper football fix.

I own a couple of rental properties in Stafford. There are 1 bed properties for between £375 and £400 plus. For a 2 bed property in a decent area you are looking at £450 plus.

My properties are located at Western Downs, which is a decent area and comprises of a number local amenities and within a 20 minute walk of the town centre.

I'm sure you will be very happy in Stafford. Ive lived in a number of places across the UK, as well as in Dubai. I'd much rather live in Stafford. My home town.

I may only go out every couple of months in terms of nightclubs but the fine ale pubs sound good. I play guitar and ain't bad and wouldn't mind the occasional jam night to attend to.

I'd be happy just working in a coffee shop to be honest and have done kitchen / catering work for the past 2 years and I think there is an agency that does that, Berry Recruitment.

My reason for moving is I fancy a change and a new / fresh start. Stoke has quite frankly, gone downhill. Really needs doing up. Also I can jump on the 101 if I ever need come to Stoke visit family etc.

I've been visiting Stafford town centre occasionally past week and it seems ok. I used to attend Staffordshire University (Stafford Campus) so was already a bit familiar with the area.
