could the sign be in the wrong place as nearby Greyfriars place has gas work starting Feb 17

I don’t think so. There have been signs on Greyfriars Place for at least a week and those roadworks are only for 8 weeks, not 20.

The electronic sign mentions major disruptions, which probably means Stone Road or Eccleshall Road or the roundabout.

Astonishing moment lorry sheds 100-tonne load of machinery onto Staffordshire roundabout - sparking traffic chaos
Two lampposts were also damaged in the incident

A lorry has shed its 100-tonne load onto a roundabout in Staffordshire - knocking over the lampposts.

Machinery came off the back of the HGV in North Walls, Stafford, and ended up on the traffic island shortly at 12.30pm today (February 12).

Emergency services and highways remain at the scene as the vehicle still needs to be recovered.

Police confirmed no-one was injured in the collision and repairs to the lights are ongoing.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We were called by the ambulance service at 12.38pm to reports a lorry had shed its load. Machinery weighing around 100 tonnes has come off the back.

"The lights on the island have been knocked off and highways are currently at the scene fixing the problem.

"We are trying to arrange recovery of the vehicle. The fire service also assisted but have since left the scene.

"Nobody was injured in the incident and no arrests have been made."

Might take more than a trolley jack and a good shove to retrieve that.

I might be tempted to just shove it the rest of the way and let the swamp deal with it.

Looks like the recovery vehicle is on the scene, leaning against a tree in the third pic. The return of angry cyclist?
Very like my bike, but that was outside Radio Rentals at the time.

It's lucky that he was in the right-hand lane when it fell off, so there is still a single lane sneak through available...

Queensway roundabout closed to remove yesterday's shed load. 4 tow trucks on site and stabilising it with sleepers.

Looks like it's getting back towards being movable again, but they won't want it falling off somewhere else now...

There was the distinct air of the fairground as I approached along the closed North Walls.

Ah, thought I'd posted this earlier - the traffic map suggests that it's still there.
