Stafford Traffic.

There's a tree down and road closure at Eastlands (A449 Rowley Grove to West Way).
This means all A449 inbound traffic will be diverting through Highfields to Newport Road end.
Silkmore Lane is closed at co-op.
Sandon Road is closed at ATS.
Baswich Lane is closed at St.Thomas Farm.
Good luck everyone.

I came through Stafford this morning and cars must have been able to get past on the A449 - whilst lots were diverting up West Way there were still plenty going straight on and crawling through.

Baswich Lane is causing its own congestion it is very poorly signed that the road is closed.
The only sign I could see was at the mini island before the canal bridge, dozens of vehicles were turning to join the jam at the top of the lane.

The Cricket & Hockey club on Riverway is flooded again. I think it was due to reopen next week after fixing the last flood damage. :(

So sad. I was planning on going to the opening.
Yep, we’re flooded again. Fortunately not as much damage as last time.

The irony is we were due to meet with the Environment Agency at the end of the month to plan our flood defences/prevention strategy

An area of expertise that appears to be sadly lacking at the EA at the moment.
I put a post on Stafford forum ages ago,how puzzled how flood defences erected 'across ' a road in Worcester worked.... Seems they didn't work last night. Sons work was evacuated as it became marooned and part of the rapidly rising river.

Feel so sorry for places who have done the premises out since the last floods, only to have to start all over again.

Hopefully flooded Riverway club isn't too damaged and can get back open soon (attended a party there a few years ago, really cosy and nice atmosphere)

A flood barrier across a road just needs to be high enough...

... and not easily bypassed.

We probably need to get used to this now.

Can't help but get the uneasy feeling those barriers are a disaster waiting to happen ….
In the lower picture, in Austria, where the road coming towards the viewer passes under the water this side of the barrier, it is actually a bridge over a tributary coming in from the right. The water level must be 20' up from 'normal'.

Continental floods make ours look a bit dainty.

I see how these barriers work now..This has just made things worse for sons works , which is to the right of the photo and is now part of the river. Stopped the flooding going up the road, but looks like it's forced it further down and across instead. First time they have had to evacuate and can't get back in yet as their building and carpark is still surrounded .:(

Water has to go somewhere. If we stop it going to one place, it will go somewhere else.

A lot of our current problem is caused by drainage, rather than solved by it. We keep adding places that 'must be drained' - car parks and other hard standing, tin sheds (imagine what comes down the gutters on the Amazon shed in Rugeley), etc.

The rivers are the final conduit in the system on the way to the sea, but we keep building on their overflow areas, whilst expecting them to cope with more water.

We also cut down almost every tree on the island and so we get the water into the rivers ever faster.

The faster it gets into the rivers, the more water actually reaches them - slower and more would soak in.

It'll be a while before we see any improvement...

Forgetting about the (planned this time) closure of Sandon Road has caused me to use Crooked Bridge Road for the first time in a while.

I am surprised that the news seems to have omitted to mention the mortar attack that has almost destroyed the road - when did that happen?

It's just a continuation of Corporation Street. Bloomin awful.

Great one-way lights at the end of Wolverhampton Road - letting through enough vehicles to back up and block the one-way when the "main lights" go red, so nobody can go anywhere, even when the others have a green light at last.

Silkmore Lane is fully open, but the "Road Closed" sign is still there by the Alpine Lodge roundabout.
