I'd like to ask the Panel...

How long could you survive with only the food and medicine that you have now in your home?

Thank you

On my own about 3 weeks for the food, Medicine will last roughly a year.
With the youngest, food will last less than a week, year for the medicine.

I’m still using up my Brexit stash.
Haven’t bought a tin, or a loo roll or pasta or what have you for about 6 months.

So I’ve probably only got a few months worth of food left.

Food would be, pasta, rice, tins of tuna, tins of tomatoes, vegetables. Frozen everything that I can cook and cram in.

A freezer full of soups, stews, bol sauce, casseroles.

I’ve always got 6 months of shampoo, hair conditioner, shower gel.
body lotion. deodorant, and always a fully stocked First Aid kit.

Sounds like an idea my son had for a "Big Brother" type show ..... 10 people have to live for a year in a local-type supermarket (Londis, Tesco Express etc) living off just what they can find in the shop (not sure if that included cooking facilities, loo-roll etc).

Anyway, I reckon we could last 4 weeks. Milk would be a problem - I don't fancy water on my muesli. Running out of medication could have interesting side-effects.

Then I'm screwed. I guess I can cook on the wood burner but most of the food is in the freezer.
Me too. I've several small Gaz canisters but I'm not sure how much use they'd be. I might have to burn the shed and the fencing.

What if there was no electricity
Son soon found out when he returned from work to a long power outage last week. Couldn't cook, heat house with no electric spark for gas pilot light , no telly or working consoles, no wifi without power to the modem, can't charge dead mobile phone....

We've got stocks of food and loo rolls to last a few months, although lots of the food is frozen. Prescription medication we have a few months supply of most items, only a couple of months on some. Toiletries and house cleaning products must be a years worth. Millions of batteries, light bulbs etc . Hubby has enough shaving cream to last the rest of his life time , even if he lives well past 100.

I have a good year's worth of wood for the shed fire, and several years of bottled gas for the cooker in there. I would expect to last a month fairly easily on food that's already here. There is a car battery in the greenhouse, kept topped up by a small solar panel, for occasional emergency use. I'm not much of a drug user, so there would be several year's supply around the place. I have an emergency supply of 'creamer', but I should be able to see cows in fields shortly. If the mains water supply stops, there is a good bit of storage in place, and free supplies have not been in deficit in terms of filling the many rainwater vessels, there's about a thousand litres in stock at the moment. There is about five hundred litres of oil stored on site, but that relies on an electric pump for combustion - there are old paraffin stoves that could be fuelled by the oil, should electrical supplies be out for a long period (that was all we had for some weeks in 1963). Bread supplies and materials would need to be seriously eked out to make the month, but it might be doable.

In the past, I have had periods of not buying anything beyond bread and milk, in order to 'eat down' the stocks in the house, to avoid the stuff getting too elderly - three weeks was little problem, beyond the monotony and slightly unpleasant combinations that were sometimes 'necessary'.

I've had a few ' get through the old stuff first' weeks. Last time I was doing so well emptying the cupboards, then everyone started the Brexit stock- ups. So decided I'd better restock before the shop supplies dried up.
Have always had massive stocks of loo rolls ...count today is 236 :D

Still got about 30 old candles that I fought to buy in one of the miners strikes.
