This pix from my town shoot in 1978. As you can see the frontage was pretty deteriorated and what was left of those statue things on either side have long gone. Can't tell from the poster what was showing, but I'll buy a pint for someone who can figure out the film ...

True but if Weatherspoons hadn't taken it on, it probably wouldn't be here now, having been replaced by something with all the architectural merit and charm of the Borough Council building.
As is the Stafford way...

I seem to remember at one time some decades ago they were contemplating demolishing the Ancient High House and replacing it with something more in keeping with the brick box that is now MacDonald's … ( Cantors I think back then.)
Ive heard that rumour. Only sbc could contemplate something so stupid!
