Stafford Western Access Route.

This probably should be in the today I saw bit, but here goes.
I've just seen a bloke, in the rather fetching bright orange prison jump suits, that they're all wearing. He was riding round the car park on an even brighter yellow quad bike with matching illuminous yellow tanks on the back.
He looked like he was spraying the car park with sumat.
Weedkiller?
Wasn't all over, He rode between the cars and randomly round the area.

They still do the spraying at least is some areas, see every year coming into Stafford on the both stone and Lichfield roads. They are often on foot doing it around this time of year.

Well! Looks like they've packed in for the Easter weekend. Made a racket all week, and just as i'm about to finish my annual leave, they bog off home!
(I do have say, I've had a lovely week off, haven't done much, haven't gone crazy. Spent my evenings ''chatting'' to some (3½) really good friends via Facebook. )

Work continues on major town centre project despite lockdown

Work is continuing Stafford town centre despite the coronavirus lockdown.

Most shops in the main streets are closed due to the current lockdown measures, leaving normally busy areas such as Market Square far quieter than usual.

But over in nearby Victoria Park there is activity, as the major restoration project has resumed.

And work to construct a new road to relieve town centre traffic is continuing, Staffordshire County Council leader reported on Monday.

Speaking at a virtual corporate review committee meeting he said: “The Stafford Western Access Route has continued throughout the pandemic lockdown – as has the western extension on i54 in South Staffordshire. There are projects still ongoing.”

Piling work at the Stafford Western Access Route site was suspended for two weeks in late March, but resumed last month after being reviewed by the piling contractor and Amey Highways to ensure it could be carried out safely. The driven piling work is expected to be completed this week.

Demolition and earthworks were halted on the old Saint Gobain site, but carriageway works on Doxey Road continued, alongside some other works on the Sainsbury’s site.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for economic growth, said: “It is vital that we are maintaining construction work that will maintain long-term economic stability.

“Our teams will continue to work where they can, but we will continue to take decisions on whether we continue to operate road schemes considering public safety, the safety of our employees and our suppliers’ operations. We are listening and responding to resident concerns throughout the project.

“What is right for one site may not be right for another and it is important that our local judgement applies unless and until any further restrictions are applied in support of the overall health strategy. The overriding priority is the safety of the public and our employees.”

Shhhhhh, but I think they've almost finished the pile driving, the biggest machine was taken away other night, and I think the concrete post thingies are being levelled. Couldn't have happened at a better time, I'm now on 10 days anual leave!!:D:D
There have been more back there at work this week....

Update today -

"
I refer to my previous correspondence and our discussions regarding the above, I can confirm that the precast concrete driven piling has been substantially completed today, however following on-going quality inspections there are some remedial works required whereby there will be some further intermittent piling required.

Following this, there may also be some additional piling works required following a review of final test results to ensure structural integrity is maintained. This is expected to be for a limited amount of works, which the full extents are yet not known. Once this information is available updated communications will be published accordingly.

I apologise for the noise and disruption which is being created by the piling works, but unfortunately this cannot be avoided due to the nature of the operations.

I shall also get back to you regarding the traffic management measures and retention of existing trees as soon as possible.

Regards

Sean

Captains Log Stardate 16-06-2020.
There is a tiny bit of pile driving still occuring, (new concrete piles arrived at 9 this morning), the blokes doing the new road are now digging up the old one. The diggers going here, there and everywhere are shaking the life out of the houses opposite.
A really annoying squeaky noise has started, it's like someone has removed the back seat of a Morris Marina to fit new seat covers and not put the seat back on the clippy bits properly.
OR, It's the noise made by Batty Bat when he sent morse code to Captain Beaky and his band when Hissing Sid captured toad!

Sat here watching the blokes over the road, there is one driving the tarmac machine, one going behind him with a shovel and EIGHT stood there watching the pair of them.
Neighbour and myself have come to the decision, there is not one bit of eye candy between the lot of them. Might as well go work...................
