What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

Just had a thought though @Glam

I usually donate my jigsaws to the church sale (we’ve got a village swop thing going on) with people donating a few pounds to church.

But if you tell me what you like, I’m happy to post you something. Mine are mostly 500 pieces but there are some 1000 pieces in our stock.

It would be my pleasure to post something, (no charge) just to say thank you for being a key worker and doing a brilliant job.
That's a lovely, generous offer @Carole thank you.
Let me have a think and i'll give you a nudge, if that's ok? xx

I am drinking every night in isolation, although only 1. Except on a Friday where we have a quiz night with friends I'd normally drink with. Last week I went through a bottle and a half of wine and wasn't much good on Saturday morning.

Finally got my home made loop aerial up and it's just as good as the professional one. Had to put three stays on the pole though, it was wobbling more than I thought it would. That's being well tested today.
As sea-going sparkys say: "Yer can't have enough aerials."
Good reception as shown here taking a weather forecast via RTTY (radioteletype) from a station in Germany.

No pictures, because nothing was worth it. It's been a cold, windy day, so just a few odd jobs, many of which weren't fully successful.

I tarted up the white paint around the Chalet window, to neaten it up and improve the free illumination. I'm contemplating a less strident colour on the bulk of the building, to reduce the glare outside and to increase the solar gain - we'll see, it's not high on the list. I had the white paint on the go as I was redoing the white edges on the steps, to increase the visibility at night, plus the ends of the railings, the gate handles, etc. It really helps.

A bit more weeding, until i got fed up with the wind.

I've long been annoyed by the short length of the power lead on the Karcher pressure washer and resolved to replace it with the much longer scavenged flylead from the floodlight, as that will be wired in permanently shortly. Well, some bright spark thought it really 'enhanced the safety' to make that as difficult as possible, there's a rather specific hexagonal grommet/strain relief that the cable is firmly fixed into, glued or ultrasonically welded, I suspect. You really need to reuse this, but it's a bit of a job to get it off in a still-reusable state. This, plus crimped connectors, led me to put it all back for now, but I will get around the obstructions at some point. The 'moulded on' plug has the outer part of the cable not firmly fixed into it, so the innards of the plug are potentially exposed to water, as you need to have the extension socket too close to the action, especially on a windy day. No need to have any of these problems, really, but I will defeat the sods. It needs doing, it's an annoyance every time it's used, having the drag the extension whenever you move a few yards.

The early evening was taken up with the weekly shopping expedition.

Over the last week or so, I've been recapturing escaped plants from around the place and popping them into the patio pots.

@Carole's butt has proven to be of sufficient size to supply them with the necessary irrigation facilities, even with the extra requirements of the transplanted plants and in the current near-drought situation here.

It's been a funny day - really hot for the first half of the afternoon - too hot, really - so I opened the Big Door, taking advantage of having tidied up The Apron area a bit over the last few days.

It'll make access a bit easier now. The Lean-To on the left is still half full of wood, that'll last the rest of this year, then I'll rearrange things a bit.

I spent the second half of the afternoon wondering if I should water the wilting plants in the front garden, whilst watching thunderstorms cruise past, ignoring me. The decision has just been made for me by the arrival of a welcome deluge.
