The slow crawl out of self distancing

I'm condoning nothing mate, lighten up :)

Had my drone up this afternoon trying to ascertain if the little sods nesting in my roof were bees or wasps.

They're wasps, so Wasp Man can come round and do his worst ASAP as far as I'm concerned.

Can't you just shoot the wasps instead of the drones then everybody's happy?

No offence taken , as I said you had likely posted in jest.

I've already had a police visit a few years back down to an interfering sh#t stirrer who thought she knew it all .
This not only wasted my time but also the officer who visited.
It was probably most embarrassing to the officer having to deal with the report as I was perfectly within my rights , However it means I now have to cover myself legally as theres always going to be someone like that around.

The fact that your pic already got a like proves there still is ;)

I would suggest that @Carole, like myself, was amused by the picture rather than purporting any sort of support for actually shooting drones down.

I agree , I noticed @Carole had liked that post after I made my statement already.
Like @proactive , it was liked in jest.

I wasnt referring to @Carole though , I was referring to the first person to like it. All likes are time stamped to avoid any confusion :)

Got to laugh at Michael o'Leary of Ryanair on the Beeb just now talking about flights resuming with fewer people on board, "but of course families need to sit together". I imagine it was his company that, pre-virus, would have charged them extra to do so.

I guess it'll be a sign that the virus has passed and things have returned to normality when budget airlines start seating families around a plane rather than in the same row.

I‘D quite like him to give me my money back before he starts talking about resuming flights!

I have to ask, what have you got against @littleme ? You've been having a dig at her for a while now. I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one to have noticed.

I don't know her, but know every post you've made since you've come back has been a dig. That's not what a forum is supposed to be about.

As ive already stated , if anyone is overly concerned why i like or dislike a person on this forum or in real life , they should ask that person or persons directly or send them a private message.

my posts have always been factual .

Quite a few people don't like me. Asking me why that's the case wouldn't get you very far though as I haven't a clue.

Anyway, back to back on public transport?

You do realise that's an offence these days if its implying shooting a drone down ?.
As for me , I'll be complying with CAA regs , I'm licenced and have all permissions in place.

The correct course of action would be to contact the police who would then check my credentials and recorded digital flight records to ensure I was operating legally.

So you say that the correct course of action is to phone the police?
But someone did call the police and yet you still obviously bear a very nasty grudge.
Have you ever put yourself in their shoes or in any of your neighbours situation?

While drones may have a place in society, in my opinion, sometimes they are nothing short of a nuisance.

A few examples.
1) a while ago I was fortunate enough to do a Safari in Africa. Sitting outside our hut, observing nature at it rawest, no sound except for those of the wild. Until someone decided to break the silence with a drone and ruin it for everyone else.

2) Someone in our village posted about 50 photos to our village e mail list of everyone’s houses and back gardens.
Now myself, like quite a few people, think of their back garden as a sanctuary, another room of the house and I don’t particularly want someone nosing round it.
I do actually put the washing out in my underwear, or whip my top off while sunbathing.
To me it’s an invasion of privacy and I didn’t like it.

So whether it’s legal or not doesn’t always make it morally right.

Just saying.

In answer to your question , yes and thats why there are rules and regulations a responsible licenced operator must follow.
and no , no grudge , i either like someone or i dont.

i see your examples and there are rules for those situations also.

in this country , drones are usually banned from nature reserves etc for the safety of wildlife.

regarding privacy , without its a drone used on film production / TV use , the average drone doesnt have the scope to zoom into that level to see that you are actually there let alone know what clothes you are wearing. this is also why a drone operator would stick to the CAA rules of not being within 150 Meters of any property not under the operators direct control and 150 meters of a group of 1000 people or more.
50 meters regarding people of less than 1000 in an open area.

There are some bad apples , but on the whole most responsible operators do stick to the regulations chance what the media would have you believe .
Most operators would actually take your concerns on board and would rather move away from their location even if they was legally allowed to .
we even hand out flyers to those wanting more info and answer questions when its safe to do so .

Not seeing much love for drones on here I think the rules for drones should be designated areas you can use them rather than areas you can't. I'm not sure I would want a to own a drone because even if it was only used for corporate gigs like weddings etc there seems largely to be a stigma attached to owning a camera drone as most people see it as a possible unwanted invasion of privacy and as such may deem an owner using it near houses, when there is plenty of open country side and scenes of natural beauty, an unjust unnecessary invasion of privacy no matter what any rules may say. Just a thought:roll:

Should be an interesting few years ahead of us then.
Amazon , Google and most recently the NHS are already putting them to use... a lot nearer to houses than what a recreational user is.

The beauty with those people having the drones is 100% visibility on what they do with the captured footage and let's be honest they all have good reason for filming residential areas. My view is that I like drone footage I loved Tony Robinsons program but they were places of interest. I'm confused as to what a sole person who owns a drone would find a residential area a 'place of interest'? ;)

agreed.
Most of my media can be found online and is fully within guidelines.
Theres some good examples , for example , most media footage showing empty towns, streets , roads during the lockdown has mainly been shot via drone.
These operators ( pfco licenced) , are then are able to sell footage to media channels .

So daft question I know but seeing as this thread is about the proverbial slow crawl out of lockdown... How has everyone coped so far? And what's the first thing you're going to do when the lockdown is finally fully lifted?
Interesting you should ask. Prior to lockdown I worked from home fairly regularly. Odd days and the odd week being on the bench (bench is the time between contracts) those times at home were fine but my preference was always to be in an office.
Forward to a week and a half into lock down. I am not handling it well. I hate the solitude, I hate not mixing with people and I don’t mind admitting it, the idea of all of those people dying was getting to me. I went out to asda to shop for essentials very early on. I admit now I had tears running down my face. What we had become, what the future looked like, the death. It got me.
Now I am better. I don’t go out. My wife tends to walk the dog. I don’t go shopping. I savour the phone calls and the skype calls and this Friday I go to a friends house to stand metres away to wish his daughter a happy first birthday. Its on the day I should have been her godfather.
When this eases I will drive my motorhome to a quiet spot that I know I can park overnight and have a glass of wine. Not celebratory.

The main theme on this thread was about people flying drones near other people's property and it being an invasion of privacy. For me I wouldn't fly a drone anywhere near someone's residential property without their express permission so if someone wanted to fly a drone near houses then surely the respectful thing would be to go and knock on the doors of those house concerned and ask their permission. We all live in very understanding neighborhoods right? All a drone operator would need to do is explain the time and date of when they wished to fly to any houses that may end up on the film and give a reasonable explanation as to why they felt the need to film those houses simple right?;) so what's the first thing you are planning on doing when the lockdown is finally fully lifted? For me I want to take my whole family for a reunion dinner to some where extravagant

Answering your first question

'so if someone wanted to fly a drone near houses then surely the respectful thing would be to go and knock on the doors of those house concerned and ask their permission. We all live in very understanding neighborhoods right? All a drone operator would need to do is explain the time and date of when they wished to fly to any houses that may end up on the film and give a reasonable explanation as to why they felt the need to film those houses simple right?'

I
f only it was that simple , an operator cant just fly in those areas even if they had spoken and got permission from the householders. only fully licenced pfco holders could do that and wouldnt require to obtain permission directly , they would apply to local councils or other authorities and together with a risk assessment put forward and passed would be able to continue .

Second question .
i'll answer that one once im certain there wont be a second wave of this nasty virus .
