Western Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, comes from the western United States and is very different to Spanish Cedar, Cedrela odorata, which comes from tropical Central America. The latter is the one used for hives. Neither are particularly closely related to the species of Cedrus - Cedar of Lebanon, Himalayan Cedar, Atlas Cedar & Cyprus Cedar which are the ones which produce the mothproof cedar wood & cedarwood oil

I remember a junior deck officer buying a 'genuine' cedar storage chest in Calcutta once. It was supposed to give off a pleasant smell in which to store your clobber.

I don't know about pleasant, you'd have needed scuba gear to get within 50 feet of it. Never mind insects, that thing would have dropped a rhinoceros.

After the success of our VE Day celebrations our neighbours decided to have another social distancing outing on our front lawns.
The theme was Chelsea Flower Show. I put the bunting up (which I’d made a few years ago and am quite proud of.)
We dressed up for the occasion, the ladies wearing flowery dresses and the gents wore flowered (or brightly coloured) shirts.

Our friends went all out with their display.

It was nice to be able to catch up and have a chat, with everyone very respectful of keeping their distance.
Next one in a few weeks time, the theme is Italian night.

If it was made out of this stuff, then Good Luck to him.

It is, without doubt, the most offensive wood that I've ever had cause to use. Even doing the sawing yesterday outdoors (mostly to avoid the mess, if I'm being honest), I was still suffering this morning. Further sawing today was done with mask and googles, whilst being careful to be upwind in general, but I've still had to have a good swill down and may have another yet.

Most of the dust-creation tasks have been done now, though I have some rebates to sort out, I may do them by hand to lessen the airborne menace.

The pile at the front is the entire remains, less the poison dust.

I cut down the comfrey a couple of days ago, even though the bees do like it, before it seeds everywhere.

I like to shred stuff, but it's super-juicy material, even after two days in the Sun - so I've snipped it up and raised it onto a grating.

About ten years ago, i was given this old tool chest - about 1960, I would think - it's had a bit of a clean-up and the sunshine today was good for soaking a bit of finish into the wood. There should be a lockable flap on the front, but that is missing - I doubt I'll need it, as it won't be in much of a transport situation - I might make a shallow drawer for the space, one day.

I do have all the fittings, and (most of ) the missing knob.
