This village has gone scarecrow crazy too .. This fellah appeared this afternoon in my neighbours garden directly across the road from me. I was going to lean out of the window with my Tommy gun and shout: "You'll never take me alive … Copppppper !!!" but PC Penhale might be about and I'd come under fire … :heyhey:

And you think we've got problems !!

In 1970 I followed one of these things, Cyclone Bhola, up the Bay of Bengal on a cargo ship bound for Calcutta. The storm was travelling a very similar route to this one, and we had to stay well south of it steaming slowly. It proved to be one of the deadliest storms in history. After we left Calcutta we anchored off Chittagong which was pretty much devastated, and the sea was filled with indescribable horror.

And it looks like it couldn't have come at a worse time … :(

As if the world hasn't got enough problems right now the US is getting a bit uptight about 5 Iranian oil tankers, one of which I've shown here on the plot. Despite the fact that Venezuela is literally floating on oil, they have a fuel shortage due to refinery problems. So these ships (product carriers carrying refined product I should think) are inbound from Iran with a supply. Both countries of course are under sanctions by the USA.
I did quite a bit of trading on the Venezuelan coast back in the day, also on a product carrier so I know some of those ports you can see.
The red plots are tankers, but if a faded red, the plot is possibly not updating. Could be they've switched off the AIS tracking system !!

Not quite the end of May but already the sunniest since I had solar panels fitted in early 2012. Looks like the sunniest spring so far in the last 8 years.

... this wire across a road. It's not the world's busiest highway and I haven't been up there for a couple of years, but it occurred to me that it has been there at least since I first saw it in 1975.

It's there on Street View, but there is only one picture, from 2009.

There's no huge safety issue, it just takes an electric fence feed into the opposite field.
