No water in Stafford areas?

2 bedroomed terrace. 2 people living here. 1 toilet. Bath/shower. Washing machine and I'm the dishwasher. No hot tub, outside tap or hosepipe and I pay Severn Trent £24.04 a month.

furthermore , who's to say it isn't being used responsibly or is it just an assumption ?

Are you sure about metered properties subsidising unmetered ones?
I’m not on a meter and pay over £500 a year. It seems like those with meters are paying less.

Good point.
We have a meter. Our water bill comes to about £400 per year but we do use a lot of water. My parents, who don't have a meter and hardly use any water pay close to £650.

We aren't on a meter, small 3 bed semi- detached house. 1 toilet, shower over bath, washing machine . And like @Glam I'm the dishwasher, and no outside tap, hosepipe or hot tub. We pay £475.04 a year = £39.58 a month. Definitely not those on a meter subsidising those without one.
We only found out as we were walking past towards the end of our walk and saw the lorries and queues. I queued as hubby fetched the car. (We had seen the lorries arriving as we started our walk, but thought they were just parking up for the night.) Allowed 12 bottles per household.
I was talking to the lady handing it out in my queue. They have come down from Derby and will be there each night until 10pm whilst there are problems. Says they have plenty in Derby , and no Problems. Says they have plenty here in Stafford as well, but just can't get it into the pipes quick enough for the demand here.
There were lorries giving it out on the Queens retail park as well as I was told.

Interesting tidbit: for a full dishwasher load the dishwasher I believe is more water efficient than using the sink.
But yeah, I don’t know anyone who hasn’t actually benefited financially from going metered for their water. It’s way, way cheaper. Unless perhaps you have like, daily baths

We live at the top of Kingston Hill, there’s a high density of elderly and vulnerable people up here (our neighbour is on chemo!) and we had no water for a good four hours last night, had to run round some expired water from the last outage a while back (the bottle expired so not safe to drink the contents) to aforementioned neighbour so they had something to use for washing their hands.
Worst time really too, given everyone needs to be washing their hands. I did find a cut on my hand with the alcohol hand sanitiser though... ouch

The HGV's were there again on Wildwood carpark. So had a drive up and asked them if people shielding automatically get contacted.
Answer was they don't , but if neighbours want to drive and pick up some for them they can. So I got them to sling some in my boot for my elderly shielding neighbours(who have had another additional 12 weeks sheiding added on to the previous 12) .
They were most appreciative of the knock on the door with the bottles, nearly in tears at my gesture so I was so glad I thought of it. (Their son is in Wales so can't even visit them)

As I returned from my walk, another man in our road asked me if I wanted any water, as Severn Trent had been dropping it off outside his house the past 2 days. Looks like he's getting the water delivered which was meant for the elderly couple by mistake. So (social distancingly) introduced him to them as he's taken some to them , and he's going to take any more round that he gets dropped off now .
(Told him if he finds cider dropped off outside his door, bring it round mine ... )

Well it was an assumption (my bad), else why wouldn't everyone have a meter if it would save them money? I guess people prefer fixed costs or are suspicious of metering.

It depends, you may not be at your property much , no garden , working away , second home , or simply you are the only resident.
If that was the case then its likely you wouldnt use much water.
In that situation a meter would be worth having.
My previous property was a new build 3 bedroom with 4 adults residing.
This was metered , we did use loads of water there too and cost a small fortune .
When i moved here , i rang to check if the yearly bill was correct as it was so small.

Turns out I was right to be suspicious of sons metering.
He moved into his metered house last June. First bill iin July was £39 but we thought maybe it was a month and a bit from previous owners readings.
Then in January his half yearly metered bill came. Worked out over £40 a month., Small 2 bed semi , only son living there , water butt to fill his watering can, careful with usage thinking of his bill , out at work long hours and away on holiday for several weeks of the period.
He rang and they investigated....faulty meter....put a new one in and re- billed averaging on the next month's actual useage on new meter. Worked out £17 a month then.
Good job he had our fixed bill to compare his with, or he might have just assumed it was right and carried on paying over double.
