Sorry to hear about your brother @peggy. Glad he's managed to pull through it and still with you.
We lost hubbys cousin to it back in April.
Scared us from going out anywhere , especially with hubbys heart failure , we've been getting deliveries in and I just dared to visit the local ''deserted' garage when we ran out of milk.
I ventured out shopping for the first time last week to the local butchers and farm shop.....it was nice to get out and talk to people, and I felt a bit more human again, but the way everyone else in those places were acting it was as though the virus didn't exist. I haven't dared go into a supermarket yet, just getting click & collect where I can stay in the car. (Apart from the time I had to walk there and get a taxi back as the car battery died).
Hope you are able to enjoy getting out and about soon @peggy
Thank you @staffordjasy sorry to hear about your hubby’s cousin. My brother visited me this week and although he seems to be having some related issues he’s looking good. Hoping these issues go and there’s nothing permanent. Shielding to end 1st August, it does feel like with all the restrictions being eased and the 2meters rule being halved just as shielders are venturing out like lambs to the slaughter! I’ll be very cautious as I head out and doubt I’ll go about my life as before.

I was thinking that as well. Shielding all this time, then let out amongst all the madness as social distancing rules relaxed and lots of people seem to think it's all back to as it was before lockdown. When I went to the butchers last week they had and 'In' and 'Out' system and people were waiting outside for space in the shop. Went in on thursday , people wandering in and out both doors, the In and Out signs had disappeared and people criss-crossing over each other closely to look at different displays on the counters.
Had to venture down the town today to go to the lighting shop in Crabbery Street. Rather scary walking along the main street as some people were getting so close despite not needing to . Tried our best to give people a wide berth, but we seemed to be like a magnet attracting them! Walked around the back streets to get back to the car.

I wonder if holiday insurance will still be valid?
I rang to renew our annual insurance with LV on Friday, and checked with them if covered for Covid-19 for new holidays booked. Was told that at the time of booking the holiday, if the FCO advice was not to travel because of Covid ,then we wouldn't be covered if we had to cancel the holiday due to it or taken ill. But if there wasn't advice against travel when the holiday was actually booked, then it all flared up again next year when we come to go on it ,we would be covered.

What does everyone think about the changes that are coming on 4th July?

Personally I'm dreading it, people already seem to be treating everything as if it were normal. (Bare in mind I work in a job where its very hard to distance from people, and have worked throughout the lock down so I've seen many many changes).

I just still don't feel safe. I think people are thinking it's all over, but I'm still seeing & hearing about daily cases.

With most places opening on the 4th July and distancing being lowered to 1 metre, I'm really worried about the concequences...

Is it just me?

I would not be keen to get involved..

Where I am, we had one death and three new cases in the whole country yesterday.

It is theoretically possible to open a pub here from today - on a Monday, not reopening them on a Saturday, which seems just plain mad. There are four pubs in the town here - two could currently meet the requirements to reopen at this stage, but have not done so. Some larger, city-centre premises have reopened and, by all accounts, things seem to have gone reasonably so far - and they have the whole week to sort out the finer details before the weekend arrives...

Both my daughters are back at work now .
Both feel safe as screens , floor barriers , face masks , gloves and sanitizer have been provided.
Temperature checks are taken throughout the day .
Masks are even provided should the employee have to use public transport to get there and back home.

They are asked to enter work and then change into the workwear , then back into normal clothes at end of shift rather than be allowed to wear them in public.
Also workwear must be washed after every shift.

couldnt be any safer .

I don't intend to go anywhere else other than the place I work still for quite some time, but speaking to a lot of people on a daily basis has shown me that most people think everything will just go back to normal on the 4th. This week I've had people refuse to move away as they think distancing is 1 metre already, I've had people touch me, and hold onto me while talking to me, staff members right next to me to solve problems, plus in certain areas there just isnt the room to distance, it's just too much, I'm not behind a screen and away from the public (most of the time), the general public can come right up to me to speak to me, usually removing their mask and gloves to do so... What's the point... Its so distressing to be in this position, people just don't think...

I honestly think everyone who has been able to isolate or at least limit their social experiences is so happy for everything to return to (nearly) normal, but anyone who has worked throughout is terrified, its just too soon, everything is not back to normal, our friends and colleagues are still getting sick... Maybe it's just me...

No it's not just you. I think 'we' are going to walk blindly into a second wave; how bad it will be remains to be seen.

This.

However..
its not anyone elses responsiblity to look after and protect ourselves.
That is our responsibility.
If anyone is waiting for anyone else to do it for them , then they may be waiting a while.

i know it would be 'nice' if people did watch everyones back , but this is the real world.
