Whilst there have been a number of spikes around the country recently, positive tests in Stafford remain low, with no new cases today.

Over the last 7 days (8 to 14 July) their were 3 positive tests, compared to 7 over the previous 7 days (1 to 7 July). [Source: https://coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Stafford]

I also watched indie_SAGE's live briefing this morning. The emphasis today was on the value of masks. The message was that they can be of great benefit to both the wearer and others, provided they are the right masks, worn and stored in the correct manner.

The other point that came across was just how much more dangerous public indoor environments are compared to outdoors.

If you want to see the full briefing, plus today's questions and answers, it's below.

So no one can get a face covering for 10 days? Should be compulsory from tomorrow.
I wish it was compulsory now as well...I wore mine yesterday in one of my first shopping trips out and got quite a few stares . ( But was glad I was actually wearing it as there was absolutely no social distancing going on, no number control or sanitiser)

Got 100 for 9 quid off amazon the other day, for 2 of us will easily last 2 months as only leave the house a few times a week and never for more than 4 hours unless hiking.
I looked last week on Amazon and missed any as cheap as that. Will have to scour it again for another stock up , as got a feeling we will need them for a long time yet.

It will take a few days for everyone to get there masks. I've managed to order a mask today but dispite being manufactured and distributed in UK due to the virus delivery will take 5 days or more. A quality comfortable reusable mask is not easy to come by in the current climate. Nothing is stopping people waring masks now if you have one but it's only fair people are given time to aquire one.

People don't time to get need to get anything.

Any textile face covering that covers the mouth and nose, without having to be held in place by a hand, will be regarded as 'sufficient'.

There are no performance standards being applied. Just tying a scarf round your head 'will do'.

I've steered away from medical grade masks as they tend to not be reusable. You are right any covering is adequate even the jumper your waring pulled up over your nose will do. I've gone with a sports mask that will continue to be used well after the pandemic is over.

The introduction of the (vague) regulation at this (far too) late stage is largely just a political gimmick.

The effectiveness of various materials will vary greatly. You might expect a knitted synthetic fabric to 'catch' rather less than a woven cotton one, for instance.

It may be that the greatest benefit from this will be to reduce the numbers in shops, and the time they spend inside them.

During a works Teams meeting today, whilst chatting waiting for everyone to join someone suggested that "wearing a mask in supermarkets at this stage was akin to taking a packet of condoms to the baby shower party" :)

The Zoe study has just emailed this

Hello,
Your daily logging and ongoing support of the COVID Symptom Study continues to help us learn more about COVID-19, including some of the stranger symptoms that aren't well understood.

Our newest data suggests that characteristic skin symptoms need to be considered as key signs of COVID-19 infection, even in the absence of a fever, cough, loss of smell, and any other symptoms.

If you notice a new rash, please do take it seriously by self-isolating and get tested as soon as possible. Please continue to share the app with friends, family, and your local community and ensure that they are aware of this key symptom of COVID-19.

I ended up getting rid & un-installing Zoe, I figured that my details everyday would not count as I'm not in the everyday normal bracket, via my work. And my info would probably not help.
