People who attended the Crown and Anchor at Stone are being urged to get tested after 10 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed.
Health officials said anyone who was there between 16-18 July should get tested.
One person who tested positive from being at the pub also held a private gathering, causing a further spread, Staffordshire County Council said.
In a post shared on Facebook, the pub said it would close.
It added "due to the overwhelming amount of people visiting", they would be closing to "review our risk assessment in order to deal with the difficulty that we faced with social distancing."
Dr Richard Harling, director of public health at the council, said of the second transmission event, "not very much" is known about the nature of the party, but said, "it does appear that one of the people who caught the infection was then at a private event where there was further transmission of the infection.
This appears to largely be a young adult demographic, young adults in the 18-21 age bracket
A walk-in test centre is open on the Crown Street car park today, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00-17:00.
People who caught it at the pub could still be infectious," Dr Harling said, "we're not just talking about people who were at the pub, we're talking about people who were in contact with other people who were at the pub and we'd like them to come forward and get tested.

Pub freehold is owned by Unique Pub Co of Sheffield. Run by the licensees through an operating company, now Crown & Anchor (Stone) Ltd but until the middle of last year they ran it through another company, TC Pinto Ltd. Curiously both companies were set up with both husband & wife as shareholders and directors but with both companies as soon as the company was established the husband was removed as director and shareholder.

Latest Facebook post from the Crown & Anchor in Stone:
First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest regret for all the anguish, disruption and sadness that the events that occurred in the Crown and Anchor last month have caused to so many.

I have lived in Stone since 2001 where we have raised our three children and it has always been nothing but the greatest pleasure to be part of this fantastic community.

However, on July 18, I accept that I was simply not strong enough in enforcing the Government's COVID-19 secure rules, despite detailed preparation according to their guidelines. I regret I was complacent in enforcing these rules with the customers.

I now appreciate and understand the importance of maintaining supervised control of all the implementations, particularly social distancing and Test and Trace.
This virus gives you a false sense of normality while all around you seems ok. My error of judgement is down to me not being able to react quickly enough to the rapidly evolving situation, and for that I would like to apologise.

I cannot emphasise how much I regret what unfolded on that Saturday. I made the decision to close in order to seek guidance. The one thing that is within my power is to take positive steps to ensure the Crown & Anchor goes above and beyond to reassure people that Stone remains a safe place to visit.

We are finalising a reviewed Risk Assessment together with Environmental Health Officers from the Local Authority to ensure we do everything possible to minimise the risk of contamination moving forwards. I will inform everyone of a reopening date in due course.

I have never intentionally set out to create any damage or disruption to the community of Stone, but the reality is that I have done so, and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to rectify that.

Thank you for your understanding.

Charging £5 entry & still not taking contact details. Maybe that should be part of the new procedures. Maybe look at what happened after the doors were closed at 11pm (ish) yet people were still allowed in through the side gate & charged a fiver.
(Allegedly of course)
