...and we had to hop 14 miles t'mill, carrying a wideframe loom.
We lived for three months in a brown paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six o'clock in the morning, clean the bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down mill for fourteen hours a day week in-week out.
When we got home, our Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!

Skills to the lovely chap at Back2Bikes too whom I gave them my daughter's old bike and my 30year old Ridgeback mountain bike. His eyes lit up like it was Christmas when he saw the flex stem on it!!

He said they've been extremely busy of late and have a shortage of men's bikes so if you know anyone who is planning on getting rid of a bike, get in touch with them as they will gladly take it off you, do it up and sell it on.

Skill points to the staff in the Wildwood pub.
Doing brilliant at sticking to the rules , and soon jumping on anyone not sticking to them. Despite some youngsters moaning about hand sanitising, trying to move chairs etc they were made to comply or not get served.
Customers being directed to circles to stand on to order, as some automatically going to lean on the bar .

Well done to the Wildwood staff. That's why every night out so far ( and a few more night already booked in) have been in there where we feel as safe as we could be.

Thats good and it was the same in spoons in town. The pubs realise if they comply and get the punters to comply then they will remain open, if not they make headlines like Stone.

I tried Afford earlier this year and they were excellent. You got the feeling they were not trying to screw you with hidden charges. A great price too.
Very true...I was after a van under 2m in height due to the ferry I was taking. Whilst what they have me had a sticker inside saying the height was 2.13m it was well under 2m so I didn't have any worries at the port.

Skills to Afford rent a car. Hired a medium van for a weekend, only cost me £130 collecting at 12.30pm Friday and dropping off at 9am today.
Ended up with a cracking VW transporter, just the job for moving a sofa bed to the Isle of Wight. Fully comp insurance with zero excess !!

Unlike Enterprise, for the actual rental, they were the cheapest. But then they announced they take a further £200 in case of damage. I don't know if they still do this, but I know they used to.

Enterprise were 30 quid cheaper however there was a chance you'd get stung by them claiming some insignificant damage to the vehicle. Even with CDW excess insurance it just wasn't worth the risk...

I always use Afford because they are very reasonably priced and don't have any hidden charges. Thumbs up.

I too always use Afford.

Enterprise will be cheaper although after a van windscreen cracked on the M1 and Enterprise had me for £350, they ended up pretty dam expensive.

I had an argument with Enterprise when I took a car back after having it as a courtesy car through insurance ( neighbour kindly did a super fast U turn through my mini)
I'd filled it up at the Shell garage around the corner on my way back to return it , but the Petrol gauge never moved. After seeing petrol receipts with time just minutes before and amount of petrol they finally gave me the benefit of the doubt and reluctantly said it could be the gauge not registering yet.

Sorry Admin going off topic here....

I was once given a 1 day old golf as a courtesy car when my car was being repaired. Before I left the forecourt the manager jokingly said don't crash it! Alas, less than 10 hours later it was a write off.

The following morning I filled the car up at the petrol station and as I was in the shop to pay i watched an elderly chap mistakenly reverse at speed into my car. My car then hit the car behind and was sandwiched. Stupidly the elderly man then drove off at speed and drove into a wall and running over a dog that was being walked behind the wall.

I rescued the dog and for my troubles got a nasty bite on my hand.

The staff in the petrol station called the police who arrived in minutes. They interviewed the man in earshot of me and he blatantly lied stating his foot slipped on the accelerator as he was driving out of the pfs, it was only when I pointed to my car that he admitted the correct story that he tried to make a get away!.

Despite me not being in the car at the time i was still breathalysed, which I passed. The elderly chap was 3x times over the limit and lost his licence.

Later that day I had to call the garage to explain what had happened to the car. The manager thought it was wind up and wouldn't believe me until I sent him photos of the car.
