The Moat House, Newport Road.

Does anybody know the history of The Moat House on Newport Road? It is now an office building but must have been an imposing house in the past. If you don’t know where it is I am not surprised. There is a little road between Domino’s Pizzas and the Peugeot garage.
Friend of mine works in there and is interested to know the history.

It used to be something to do with farming/farmers back in the mid 60’s IIRC.
A bit of history about it... I was knocked down by a car on the bridge around that time. (No injuries apart from the pisstaking from my mates about the way I “flew”)

I've also found a Victoria Park design statement (prepared for Stafford Borough Council), which mentions this building on page 11:
Nineteenth Century The Stafford family built the Mill House next to the Town Mill in 1810, 19th century maps show this as ‘Holly House’. Further work to the Town Mill site was carried out with the addition of a Flour Mill in 1834. Today it is designated as a Grade II building called Moat House.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I'm not sure the bridge didn't still look like that when I had an office there 15 years ago. There's a lot you can do with chicken wire.
