Never mind UV, daylight was at a premium when I was walking the Chase in the pouring rain this morning.

Going back out again in a few minutes and things don't seem much better.
We were caught out on the heavy rain as well this morning.
I meet people like that all the time on the Chase (although they are very much in a minority of users overall). Like you say, they are mainly in the over 60 category of user.

I no longer have any tolerance for people like that now and give them both barrels. I fail to see any reason why I should keep quiet about others thoughtlesness or total disregard for others in the current circumstances. They then get very offended by my attitude, which results in them getting another two barrels. I don't suppose it achieves much but at least I get some satisfaction that I didn't meekly roll over and accept it.
They were lucky hubby was further back ,as I'd marched off ahead with him walking slower than me. He's given a couple of groups both barrels this week on our nightly walks over there when they've failed to get over even the slightest little bit, even when requested to nicely.
We always thank the people who do though .

(3 cyclists did me a favour through by making another approaching family group , looking like they had no intention of getting over, scatter across to one side as they hurtled past after passing me. The weren't going to argue with them  )

Chinese takeaway for t. Only 2 allowed in the shop at any time. 2 people had ordered then decided to wait inside while there was a queue of 3 outside! :grr::grr::grr:

Today I was on the 'other side`, as a shopper. I patiently waited to send my smart shop to the self scan tills, as I was waiting I felt something touching my ass..... turned round to find' Doris'* pressed right up against me, and I mean RIGHT UP AGAINST ME... '2 meters' I saId to her... Although this ended up as a massive shout of '2 metres' due to my mask, me not being able to hear because of general noise and my genuine horror at Doris touching my ass.

Doris moved back (about a foot) and apologised.... what the feck is wrong with people.?

*Doris, over 60, doesn't give a feck about anyone else as they've not been ill in the last 7 months, so it won't happen to anyone else, can stand right next to you & touch you when you are working, wears their mask (if they have one) under their nose, and thinks nothing of it.....

True, and some of it is more deadly than covid.

Are we still suggesting shoving the 'vulnerable' out of the way, and letting what is presumably 'us' get on with it?

As something that is at once easy and desirable?

Are we at the point where this short note considering the scientific aspects of a strategy that would segment the population into broad age and risk groups is just background noise?

Have we really just collectively lost our frickin minds?

I keep seeing these dickwads saying 'do your research' - what fecking research?

You've literally just read an op ed that says something that you would rather hear - that's not research, it's called confirmation bias.

Jeez i cannot even.

I was talking earlier to someone who was a research student at the Astrophysics dept @ Keele University, who gained her PhD there partly due to the computer modelling she'd done to back up the work of the Professor who sponsored her.

That is research.

Reading bollox on facebook is not.

ultraviolet radiation is present even on cloudy overcast days and being outdoors any virus load is very quickly diluted out of existence as ventilation is excellent.

Are you related to Donald Trump?

What is your logic in assuming "natural" UV kills Corona virus and if it does why is the virus so prevalent in countries that have high levels of UV?

My understanding was that it is only UVC that kills off genetic material but it is filtered out by the ozone layer.

I think I shall continue to stay apart from people and chastise those that don't until we get a proven way to beat the virus.

Natural UV kills 90% of covid within 6 to 15 minutes dependant on intensity so benches gates etc should be fairly safe to touch. Outdoor ventilation will remove airbornes well before that time anyway though in a matter of seconds. Outdoor risk is very low compared to indoors with windows and doors closed. In cool dark locations devoid of natural light covid has been demonstrated to survive outside the body for upto 28 days.

My research shows only UVC destroys organic matter, its how I keep my fish pond green. There is a small amount of this in sunlight, but the rest of sunlight helps most organisms flourish.

If you have scientific evidence that sunlight kills covid please post it, I'm happy to change my mind but it looks very unlikely.

EDIT: The above should read how I keep my fish pond from going green

Reading the first one, it kills it in dried samples on stainless steel media in the equivalent of the height of the summer solstice in southern Portugal.

Applying this to my pond clarifier, we use stainless stell because it helps reflect back the rays and make it more effective. A SS clarifier works better, so I am going to make an assumption here that using SS to house the samples does the same.

I'm not sure how well this applies to the UK autumn on all the non stainless steel items?

Edit: they also used the smallest droplet sizes they could, which aren't representative, and admit the UVB levels aren't correct in their simulation.

The third is not even released for review, meaning they won't let anyone see the details. Again, not evidence.

Sorry, but with the amount on nonsense going around it's hard to take anything seriously that the scientific community also don't.

When we had blocked drains Severn Trent decided to flush the pipes and basically pump effluent into my back garden. ‘Don’t worry the UV will kill any germs’ they said. Err no, get someone round to clean up with disinfectant!

The Zoe app has this graph which is a bit worrying looking at the steep increase in just two or three days!!

View attachment 9443
Where do you access that graph as I can only seem to find the local map of case rates?

Mine's now changed to that map since this afternoon , when it is now showing 1143 estimated cases for Stafford (Gone up again since this morning when it was showing 1135 , and the older version of screen).

Keep hoping the numbers are going to drop each time I look, but going in the wrong direction! :(

On another note...

I thought the rules now that all shop staff have to wear face masks ???? Each time I've been into Aldi on Lichfield Rd these past few weeks , none of the staff on the tills have been wearing masks at all. Saw some stacking the shelves wearing them today, but not the till staff again. ( I know they might say they are behind screens, but last week as I was paying the lad at the next till turned around talking to my cashier through the big gap in the screens behind him, and right across where I was )
