No wonder you’re upset.
It’s sloppy, unprofessional, no care or attention to detail, a total lack of pride in his work.

I’m just surprised that after starting one room he was allowed to continue.
I’m also surprised that you paid him anything at all, it’s incredibly generous of you because he doesn’t deserve it.

Thanks Carole, that’s only a few of the highlights, we were happy enough with the first room, obviously we didn’t look closely enough.

Hes had £1500 out of us and I’m gutted, I paid him in the hope he’d be reasonable and sort it out, at the very least apologise and sod off but he seems to want to turn it into something. I hate stuff like this, I just want a quiet life. Not sure what to do at this point, his demand for more money and slagging us off to other tradesmen (he only met the guy working here, they’re not friends or anything) seems nothing more that a bullying tactic, he’s not happy that he’s done this to our home he seems to want to stick the knife in even further.

The tiler has seen if for himself, he under no illusions but understandably doesn’t want to end up in the middle of someone else’s dispute.

That is absolutely shocking, I'm a second or third rate amateur decorator but have done far better than that whilst decorating at home during lockdown. Have you already mentioned his name on here?

I’d write to him again listing everything you’ve shown us.
Say you’ve had a second opinion and the general consensus is the the work is shoddy, unprofessional and amateurish.

Mention that you’ve paid him more than he deserves considering you are going to have to pay again to get a professional to put it right.
Say that you’ve tried to be fair but you don’t appreciate being bullied or having your good name besmirched.
Also say that if he doesn’t draw a line under it you will have no option but to put all of those pictures on Facebook along with his name and let other people judge for themselves.

I'd tend to refer him to small claims court (don't know what the financial limit is for this) or threaten him with a solicitor rather than Facebook.

You may have mentioned how you paid already but if you paid by credit card you may be able to get your money back from them.

I doubt someone like this takes card

I’m at it again.......yes I know I have a problem.

I now have a pink living room. Still the same paper that went up last year but a new colour, curtains and rug etc. Only the fifth change in almost as many years. Just about to start the kids rooms again too but only for the third time on those.

We’ve got three rooms upside down at the mo, moving a small downstairs shower room into the utility and a small utility room into what was the downstairs loo, it’s been dragging on for a while now and the disruption to the rest of the house is immense!

Sooooo hubby comes home on Friday starting a conversation that began as ……shall we get some new curtains for the living room, next thing I’m talked into it being a good idea to start pulling paper off the walls. 😩

To be fair it was done super quickly 6 years ago as we moved in, it was the dining room then about three years ago we decided a barely used dining room was a waste of space and it became the living room the kids took over, it’s been well used over the years and was starting to look a bit shabby.

Long term plan is replacing the floor, new log burner and surround new sofa etc, but for now…. Stripped, lined and painted including woodwork and a feature wall, new curtains, and wall lights and a bit of a rejig of the furniture and it looks like a new room! not bad for a weekends work and it looks soooo much better.

Now I just need the utility/downstairs bathroom finished! Can’t wait to paint it orange 🙈

Opposite to me , I HATE decorating (it's me who has done it for 40 years in our old house ) as I'm not very good at it and hate mess. Have to wear the plastic hotel shower caps as I'm very good at painting my hair.
Got no shower caps left now , so its a good job this new house has already been done up by previous owners and we like the colour scheme!

I’ve been decorating since April. Whole house was in disrepair when we moved in. Been a slow process as all the plaster was falling off the walls in every room, it’s been bloody hard work but I have picked up a lot of new skills !

There’s nothing more satisfying than when you’ve finally finished decorating a room and you sit back and look at the before and after pictures 😍

I love that feeling , but used to have to get finished what I was doing and get any mess cleared up before hubby came back from work . He's working from home now , so no chance of getting anything done in peace.
Example..... noticed the filler around the bath had a bit of a gap in this morning , so moved his soggy sponge from that area onto the sink and dried it all up ready to try a sealing strip I'd got left from the old house. Told him to keep the bath dry "Yes, ok ". Just gone up and he's cleaned his teeth and put his wet sponge back on the exact spot I was going to seal! Aaaargh!

I chose a house that didn't need decorating, but that was 13 years ago and it's starting to show! I'm more structural, happy to rebuild, but making pretty just aint my thing. Odd as I used to paint miniatures when young but just don't have the desire to make it right nowadays. Or maybe thats wrong, I think it's more that if I can't get it exact I get annoyed so I just avoid it!
