Enjoying a drop of red.
Does anyone know if you have to register the over 80s for the vaccination or if they will be contacted by the NHS to arrange an appointment? I'm somewhat keen my parents don't miss out because I have chocked something up!

All appointments are arranged by each patient's surgery

They are contacting patients it appears. My Dad went out today and missed a call from a Stafford number that wasn't available when he rang back. Hoping it wasn't it!

Been searching all afternoon for the answer to this. Couldn't even get the doctor to answer the bloody phone. Thank goodness for Stafford Forum :stafford:

Each GP Practice has access to a National Website where it has to match patient names to 'slots' in the practice area , however, they cannot book a 'slot' until they telephone an individual patient to confirm they can reach the vaccination point. At this moment, and whilst on the telephone to the patient, they click on an agreed time slot to 'book' the vaccination time. Each 'slot' lasts 120 seconds. Drive through, windows down, knickers on

Twice

Because the vaccine needs to be administered a second time 15 days ( approx ) later

Importantly this is a two dose vaccine - never a great thing, and in fact that is... no f**k that...

It is therefore essential to know who has had it when - hence coordination with GPs. It's really impressive that such a huge logistic feat has been managed so quickly, so a bit of kudos to the managers as well as the arm prickers wouldn't go amiss.

Just f**king good news all round.

But remember kids, this is just the first 400m of a 4x400m relay. And you might remember the first time your overbearing PE Teacher informed you that, despite your previously desperate interactions with the discipline, the 400m isn't long-distance and is supposed to be a sprint...

Even with a jab you will need a booster after two weeks and it will be another 28 Days Later (finger-guns to the tin-foil-crowd), till you're all good.

That means keeping up the good work - only go out when necessary, keep contact to a minimum, keep your distance, wash hands after each contact, wear a face mask when you need to be inside.

There has been a lot of noise about face masks, but this -

Summary
What is already known about this this topic?

Wearing face masks in public spaces reduces the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

What is added by this report?

The governor of Kansas issued an executive order requiring wearing masks in public spaces, effective July 3, 2020, which was subject to county authority to opt out. After July 3, COVID-19 incidence decreased in 24 counties with mask mandates but continued to increase in 81 counties without mask mandates.
- is as close to noise-cancelling as you can expect with... them.

Unless I’ve got this wrong, from what I understood from the tv last night, the vaccine only stops you personally from getting ill from it.
You can still carry the virus and pass it on and give it to someone else.
So until the majority have had it, (the vaccine) social distancing and mask wearing will still need to be done.

You could still transport virus, without being infected yourself, but the chances of infecting someone else by that means are likely to be a good bit less than if you are infected.

However, few of "us" would be likely to have been infected by the sort of people who are going to get the vaccine in the early stages.

Avoiding contact with others, and their* emanations, will remain important for some time yet.

*And reducing your own emanations, too.

I can't see us moving down a tier, hospitals still rammed and cases have levelled off which means they'll quickly start to rise.
