Sorry to hear of your poor experience, perhaps leave a review on TrustedPilot as a warning to others.

I’m possibly playing devils advocate here, but I’m actually really interested in the details.

@Bob you say that you were bullied into an unrealistic completion date by Dourish and Day?

I have to admit to not buying a property for a little while so forgive me if things have changed.

It was always my experience that it was the solicitors representing all parties, both.buyers and sellers through the chain, that decided on an exchange/ completion date, not the estate agent.

So if you felt bullied to a date that wasn’t convenient, then why didn’t your solicitor deal with this on your behalf?

Reading your posts about nothing happening,,,,, it is perfectly acceptable for a period of a month from exchange of contract to completion.

I’m not having a go, just really interested in why the estate agent decided the date.

I’ve read it. Thank you @Bob for taking the time to explain everything. I now understand why you are angry and upset.

Hugs to you xx

It's been a nightmare, I've settled the balance they have been demanding this morning and told them they ought to be ashamed of themselves and that they don't deserve the money and they should be donating it to charity.

I wont hold me breath.

Thankfully I am finally free from dealing with Dourish & Day Estate Agent (Stafford Branch) who have made the sale of a late loved one’s property an utter nightmare!

From initially telling me a buyer had put in the full asking price and was a ‘Cash buyer’ & ‘Good to go’, I automatically assumed that meant the buyer was ready to quickly proceed with the purchase or at least at the final stages of her own sale, wrong! The buyer was in a chain and her buyer had not even had the survey done which highlighted some questions which took time to be investigated, so, during my grieving process, I had to wait, and wait, and wait, and when I asked why I had been misinformed verbally, I was told I should of read what had been sent to me via email??? So by their own admission, I shouldn’t have believe what I was told over the phone!

I have spent the most horrendous few months unable to move on and had I have been informed the buyers actual position, I could of at least made an informed choice to keep the property on the market in the hope someone could make a quicker purchase!

D&D, please be up-front with your customers, please do not put issues back on to the customer when they genuinely express their concern regarding information you have misinformed them about, please change your tone when talking to customers as I felt on several occasions I was being spoken to like I was a little child. And for this poor service I paid £2,820 for little contact, to be misinformed and when I did have contact, I felt spoken down to and patronised.

I really wish I would have used purple bricks or Yopa on this occasion as the out dated 1% + VAT is no longer a true reflection of what the Estate Agents do to warrant this extortionate fee! Shop around as there are more competitive Agents out there!

I now respectfully ask D&D staff to have no further contact with me as I am not able to listen to any further excuses or passing the blame back to the customer for your own oversight which on this occasion cost me emotionally and financially!

DON'T BE MISLEAD - YOU CAN USE AN AGENT IN STAFFORD WHO IS CHARGING 0.5% + VAT WITH THEM DOING ALL THE VIEWINGS.

Alternatively you could sell your house for FREE!

I used Strike back in March and it didn't cost me a single penny!

It's not a scam and I don't work for them - they don't charge and make their money on referrals to surveyors / solicitors

I'm really sorry to hear about your terrible experiences - the agent for the house I'm buying is more than useless - I have no idea how agents can be so incompetent!

D&D have a branch in Penkridge. At one point they seemed to have most the houses for sale. Things seem to be changing and I am noticing other players taking more sales

I used Open House to sell my house. They were fantastic. They provided a very professional service at a very cheap price. I sold my house within 4 weeks and for a much higher price than I expected / thought my property was worth.

D&D did provide a valuation for my house. It was £20k less than I sold my property for. They were only interested in a quick sale, however they did inform me of a house that wasn't yet on the market and they would be selling when the renovation had been completed. Unbeknown to D&D I approached the owner directly (used my detective skills to work out which house would be going on the market) and offered the price D&D valued the property at. Imo, the property was 15k undervalued.

To add a bit of balance. I am currently using Dourish and Day for the sale of my property and for the purchase of another. So far so good. I have found them to be attentive, communicative and I am more than happy with the service they are providing. We have hit a couple of snags, none of which have been their fault but they have helped resolve them. I may have a different opinion at the end of the process, but for me, up to this point, they have been excellent.

Today I moved, D&D were the best. I really can’t fault them at all. They worked tirelessly for me and were worth every penny. Results may vary but my experience of them was 100% positive.

Maybe they do, maybe they don’t but I was reluctant to judge them until my sale completed. All done and it was them who I feel worked for their fee.
