Coronavirus.

It's also been a year since I last went to the cinema and that was around the time everyone was really anxious about coughing in public. I'd needed to clear my throat for aaaages but everyone was being dead silent so I waited until I couldn't wait anymore, did my cough and then about 15 other people immediately coughed right after. Makes me laugh to think about.

I do miss the cinema. By which I mean the Odeon. The other one is lovely but I worked there for a year when it was the Apollo and so, naturally, I avoid it at all costs now.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Listening on the radio earlier to discussion about whether we're behind or ahead of places like France (as in, will the trend that we have a spike after Europe continue) and it was mentioned that we don't have enough people yet vaccinated to prevent a third wave if we were to bin all restrictions tomorrow.

Not to be a pessimist but I really can't see life being anything like "normal" this summer. Like last year, which was fine, sure. But I have pretty much written this year off, too, in my head.
Well providing the vaccines actually work then we seem to have done a good job in protecting the most vulnerable.

I agree that we definitely can't have a normal summer but retail and other businesses have to be allowed to reopen. Those that are still in a position to reopen can't afford to remain closed any longer and the taxpayer can no longer afford to subsidise the closures or pay for people to sit at home, doing nothing on furlough.

Holidays if possible in this country but I don't think there should be any question of international travel just yet.

Oh yeah I'm all for shops reopening and I think it would be safe to do so. But when I said "normalcy" I'm a person who goes to a lot of gigs, festivals and conventions so I'm imagining those sorts of things, really.

I think I might brave the cinema this time, post-lockdown though. I kept my Limitless membership going when it was open even when I wasn't going so I may as well go, once I've had the jab.

I have also reeeeeally be grateful for how stress-free Sainsbury's has made shopping during the pandemic. I find going into town less anxiety-inducing now than I do last year, but I've found the system in there very effective.
Thank you.

Also, I'm really really glad that you like shopping in Sainsburys! ( I bet you can't guess where I work? Shhhhh, don't tell the others, they'll all turn up there too.... )

@FooFighter or @Lucy is there any way of getting lateral test kits to do at home, a few a week like the secondary school children have? There are so many people off at the moment, it would be so much easier in my job if I could get them to do at home?

Also, what do you think about my daughter doing her tests at night instead of in the morning before school? Would she be safer doing it in the morning?

Many thanks.
I don't know for sure but I believe you can order online and go and pick up at Beaconside. They wanted all parents to do them.

Has anyone been spending a lot of time down the allotment recently? I am hearing stories about an illegal bar being run in a Stafford allotment right through lockdown.

Just seen this for the first time, apparently it went viral last year but thought it was relevant to some of the convo on here today... ;)

I've never seen that before! I swear she probably could have gone on for another hour with the things that happen! Thanks for the laugh!

Ha yeah I have a fair few from my time in retail.

I always wonder what people in shops I go to call me as I know how EVERY customer would get a nickname when I used to work at the Co-op on Silkmore Lane. My favourite was "frangipane man", who would come in every single week and ask where the frangipane was and complain about us moving it even though it was always in the same place. There was also an old lady who sadly died about 10 years ago but you always had to keep your wits about you whenever she came in because she'd always come bombing down the aisles. The number of times I had to dive out of the way of her trolley whilst filling up the Muller Corners...
