Stafford Traffic.

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
Agree and ridiculous given the only warning was on the Queensway island by North and South Walls. Exiting Kingmeads (McDonalds and Aldi) this morning you could only turn left and they even had cones around the Island as well (but badly done so it squeezed the traffic into one lane just before the A34 exit to Asda and then back into 2...
Yet another day (or week I thing as regards Queensway) to avoid Stafford. Which means all our shopping will be done in either Newport or Shrewsbury. Highways seem to revel in putting people off coming to Stafford to spend money.

Mercifully I shall be away during the hop, skip and jump marathon taking place at the weekend, so don't need to get stressed about the traffic chaos which will no doubt ensue.

Does anyone know how long the mess will last for (or what they are doing ?) as I have no intention of going anywhere near the area until its finished.
Or is this a major effort to fix the pothole at the lights ?

All of that standstill traffic that reaches from Tesco past the station and on to the roundabout beyond Sainsbury is because (as you most probably know) some, could not care less, dimwit in charge has not bothered to look at the disruption thier super plan is causing.
Make 2 lanes at that roundabout so traffic can exit on towards Lidl / Halfords etc by using that nearside lane.

Not Stafford traffic but information for anyone going on the M6 this weekend.

M6 at Junction 10 to be completely closed from Friday night until Monday morning.

We got the toll back from holiday that weekend seeing signs as we drove down there the fortnight earlier. Wondered why we didn't see any warning signs to use the toll to avoid delays on the way back and the toll quite empty......

M6 now closed at Jct 10 all this weekend instead.....just to time in with the Ironman!

(And anyone thinking it's just a get off the motorway and quick get back on again......Due to an accident very late at night once everything had to get off at Jct 10 . We sat for over 2 hours waiting to get off the M5 because of it, and that wasn't even in peak times! Going to be chaos there as well)

Should i say it?

No, you shouldn't say it.

But what if i said it anyway?

No, i don't think that would go down well, like, at all.

It's true though.

That doesn't help, they're too far gone.

If anyone's planning on driving into town this morning....
I've just walked past over 1.5 miles of stationary/ crawling traffic heading inbound along Lichfield Road.
Island in town is gridlocked with roadworks on it at mo .
Also Riverway is closed from Lichfield Road-Lammascote Rd direction( but cars coming out the other direction)

Parking permits go paperless on council car parks
26/07/2021

Paperless season tickets are being rolled out for motorists on surface car parks run by Stafford Borough Council.

Drivers will now be able to get permits instantly and at any time on four car parks in Stafford and Stone – a move that will reduce paper use and costs for the local authority.

Pay by phone is already used on most council-run car parks in Stafford and has become increasingly popular with customers. This is now being extended to purchasing season tickets on a number of surface car parks from 1 August.

The four sites are Doxey Long Stay, Gaol Road, and North Walls in Stafford, and Christchurch Way in Stone. And a new QR code at the sites will take motorists directly to ‘Pay by Phone.’

Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Planning, Councillor Frances Beatty, said there were so many positive elements to the initiative - including saving council money at a time when authorities were recovering from the financial impact of the pandemic.

She said: “As well as reducing costs, there is the environmental impact of using less paper; being able to buy a permit round the clock and not just in office hours, and the permit is issued instantly – you don’t have to come and collect it or wait for it to arrive in the post. And there is now the option to receive a text reminder to renew your season ticket when it expires."

The permits can be for one, three, six or 12 months and can be purchased through ‘Pay by Phone’ via the app, website, phone or text - www.paybyphone.co.uk. For more information go to www.staffordbc.gov.uk/parking.

Councillor Beatty added: “We will be contacting the existing permit holders to let them know this is being done as well as putting information on the website and across social media.”

I've never understood how they can claim that pay by phone saves them money and then they expect the public to pay more for the privilege of not using cash.

Agreed, if it saves them so much then they can swallow the service cost

As I have said repeatedly, there is no reason anybody has to pay for parking in Stafford.

This. Haven’t payed for parking in years.

The council car parks being paid ones just encourage not using the high street if anything, not that there’s much to be missed any more. Kingsmead, Asda, etc work well enough. Only time I’ve paid for parking is when I’m going to be more than 2 hours - ie at a restaurant or Odeon - and would go over the free limit

Weston Road crossing all the way round to Aldi was closed about 30 minutes or so ago… seemed impromptu too. Anyone know why?
