Eastgate Regeneration Scheme.

Further to this point, I've walked past this building twice since I made this post and I took my first ever proper look at it. A restaurant / bar spilling out onto the road at the back of St. Chad's would be great with those big arched windows

Given some of the things that go at the back of St Chads of an evening the view from table 4 might be somewhat of an eyeopener

either the Shrewsbury Arms or the County Staff Club could be extended into the former British Legion Club.

Or the intended residential accommodation in the former British Legion Club could be extended into the County Staff Club or the Shrew.

As if too many Stafford pubs and clubs haven't already been lost.

Do you not think that we already have enough pubs then?

It's not as though customers are queuing at the doors to get on is it?

It's a shame to lose decent drinking establishments such as the Rose and Crown (if it has gone) but if the footfall isn't there what's the point of running an empty pub?

I think people might be looking for different things in eating and drinking establishments (and I say this as someone who loves a pub) - but as ever I guess the answer is more people living in the town center would help.

I'm reluctant to digress too far from discussing the Eastgate Regeneration Scheme but Albert Dyde was a very hard act to follow in the Rose and Crown and the crass refurbishment carried out by the current owners can't have helped the pub, especially with toilets outstairs and up clankety metal steps being awkward for those of us getting infirm with old age.

Not like you not to digress @ Mudgie, are you feeling ok?

Something might be happening with Ye Olde Rose & Crown. I walked past there yesterday & a guy came out of the door. He looked like a decorator (paint covered overalls etc.).

Whilst I was jokingly being sarcastic, I do hope you are feeling better soon.
Thanks. I'm much better today.
Getting back on topic I don't think Eastgate Street has been the same since the closure of the Pen and Wig, Lord Nelson and ( as near to Eastgate street as makes no difference ) Unicorn though I'm not sure how the area could best be regenerated.

Enjoying a drop of red.
To my eyes, Eastgate Street has always been a bit of a dump. There used to be a halfway decent chippy, as I recall but that was nearly 50 years ago. The only place I go to their now is Sliwinski's from time to time...
