Very sad news that Greengate Deli is closing. I was a regular in there, to get my lunch, until my work transferred me away from the town centre last year. Still take the opportunity to pop in whenever I get the chance (always try and arrange any town centre meetings to fall just before or just after lunch). Lunches apart, a fantastic range of products that you just can't get anywhere else in Stafford.

You will be missed.

All these shops closing, leads to many empty buildings (well obviously), it's depressing

And it's even more depressing how much rent is needed for them so they stay empty...

Theres 100s more places to buy food in stafford (infact theres far too many), so i dont think one will be missed! same for pubs! perhaps all this will give the town the wake up call it needs, its a dire place to shop, you cant spend money there if you tried!!

Guildhall has been rubbish from day one. All the grand plans they had with water fountains and features, they soon ran out of money and scaled those plans back.

I think the issue was lots of people brought sandwiches, not a lot of people brought expensive chutney...

Greengate Deli closing is a surprise, always seemed busy.
I've obviously missed a post somewhere here.....WHAT?! Are you kidding? That's a dreadful shame, especially when TLP seem to be doing so well. I've not been able to try their sausages rolls out yet, and Mr Juice Comedy has told me they're the best! :(

Forum Members,

Thanks for all the great comments about the Deli, Yes we have been very busy as a Sandwich shop from 12 - 2pm most days and a fantastic and loyal following we have created. Unfortunately the demands of the high street and the associated costs call for us the be busy for far more than that small lunchtime period. Hence the difficult decision has been made to close the business and move the outside catering part of the business to one of our other premises.

This week has been a busy week, mention the word SALE and its great to see so many new faces! Where have you been for the last four years and yes it has been four years especially for the people who have said that they didn't know we were here.

Fortunately all but one of the staff has decided to relocate to one of our other businesses - most moving literally just next door, into The Swan, so please come and say hello to them in the coffee shop or in the Brasserie.

The Deli van will have a new logo but will be zipping around delivering buffets on a daily basis around the businesses of Stafford, Hixon and Stone. We are even considering plans to have a "Greengate Deli" stand at the farmers market for our sausage rolls and Scotch Eggs etc., watch this space.

Not forgetting ROMEO & JULIET at Stafford Castle - Deli platters will again be available this years booked via The Swan and delivered for your enjoyment to the Shakespeare festival at Stafford Castle.

Thanks for your support over the last four years and thanks to my great team in the shop, on behalf of all of them can I thank you for the kind comments that have been made over the last week to them.

I live and work in the town centre, and there are only two places I will buy lunch from, and my first choice is ALWAYS the Greengate Deli. I understand the business reason for closing down, but I am personal gutted I won't be ale to get any more sandwiches, hot food, scotch eggs and, especially, sausage rolls.

I'd just like to say that food and prices aside, the service in the Deli was always second-to-none. Bright, welcoming individuals who were friendly during busy periods with long queues. I'm very pleased to see these members of staff will still be a part of the Lewis Partnership.

I reiterate what Juice-Comedy said, well apart from getting my lunch from there, the logistics of getting back from Birmingham to buy a sarnie would make it a ridiculous destination for a pasty. That said the service was always excellent, never had a criticism of it and it will be missed from our high street.
