The all you can eat place? I thought it was sub-standard crap but I'm not a fan of chinese anyway! I found those who value quantity love it, those who tend to eat less prefer other places. Most people I know prefer indian food though, which I suspect colours our judgement significantly!

It's not as good as Buffet Island in Newcastle-under-Lyme but it's better than the Wing Wah in Wolves. I went there on Friday night. The selection was good, and a lot different from my last visit which suggests that they change the menu frequently.....try the salt and spicy squid. The dessert menu is above average too.

Thats complete opposite to what I experienced, but again we're talking a curry person! I thought Wing Wah was great, but wasn't as impressed with Buffet Island (used to work up there). Must depend on you taste I suppose.

Got to say Tek i think it must be because your a curry person as we have always found it excellent. We eat out a lot have been to many Chinese and this we think is one of the best of its type. Choice is a little limited but not a bad thing. An 'all you can eat' buffet type place is never going to be same quality as a proper sit down resturant. But this place is good quality and excellent atmosphere for a birthday 'do'!

Wing Wahs has been mentioned, a good place to go, food better than average and lots of choice so good way to try new things.

I think that may be part of it, but also that I hate stuffing myself. A simple starter/main is enough to fill me, I don't like over eating as I feel very lethargic afterwards. Don't get me wrong, I can eat a fair bit, but nowhere near what others put away at these places. I'd rather eat a little thats great than a lot thats good.

But yeah, curry all the way for me :D

(or mexican if we still had one....)

Buffet Island has a great Teppanyaki section. I am a big fan of sushi too. Wing Wah is better in the evening than during the day as they appear to limit the dishes on offer. The Imperial in Wolves used to be good but I haven't eaten there in ages. What's your favourite Indian restaurant in Stafford?

Just been to Golden Orient for the first time...and an 'all you can eat' buffet for the first time too. My sentiments are exactly the same as...

I wasn't expecting much as far as quality goes, so I haven't come away disappointed. That said, I would never choose to go there again.

edit: It wasn't necessarily about the food (though it wasn't great)....the fact that they hover over you and take your plate away as soon as you're finished is the most impersonal dining experience i've ever had.

edit #2: I do like Chinese food, so my sentiments aren't exactly the same.

we went recently and found a big difference , but it was the heat and the noise levels that were particulary bad, we couldnt hear others at the end of our table, food not as good either so no return for us ....

i agree - it freaks me out the way they whip your plate away like that when you have barely finished! also it wouldnt bother me taking the same plate back up again - they must have LOADS of washing up!! Last time we went we had booked a table but we had to wait 20 mins after the booking time to be seated - and we werent the only ones. Having said that we have been several times (although not since the waiting for a table incident!) and its always packed, they must take a fortune every single day!

May I recommend Minhs in Hanley or Buffet Island in Newcastle Under Lyme.

Both top notch places at roughly the same prices.

Use several several Chinese buffets from time to time (Wing Wah in Aston is a fave) and I do like them to take the plates away promptly, if trying a different dish I find a clean plate preferable.
