years and years ago, possibly almost 20 years no a body was found in a wheelie bin at the back of my parents' house in the service alley, this was on oxford gardens though, doubt it was related.

Just been trying to work it out... me and the Mrs reckon it was only about 11 or 12 years ago dude (could be wrong though)

I'd say that was 1993. A group of us went to Wales for a week, and on our return one of number (who lived 2 houses down from the victim) was hauled in for questioning because of his absence.

I was living in a flat not so far a way and was asked about a missing wheelie bin. I said that I knew nuffink. No-one was convicted of murder, but the woman's partner was done for disposing of her body. He claimed she'd come home in a beaten up state and died. As you do...

I knew both the person who found the body and the person who was prosecuted for it. It was mid 90s, can't remember the exact date but I'd say approx '94. Pretty sure it was the year before I started uni anyway.

'93 / '94 seems far more likely than '99 and I remember being there with my father when he'd dropped us off after an access visit and seenig a helicopter about 50 feet above our garden. By '99 I hadn't spoken to him in 4 years.

I never did read any news stories on this one, so I might go digging (I was only around 7 years old at the time) in the acrives and read up.

Was this the prostitute that was found in a bin? I seem to remember that, but I thought it was far longer ago. More like 89/90.

yeah, i remember the wheelie bin murder.. massive news at the time - it seemed like everyone who told the story knew someone related to the incident somehow! lol..

wasn't anywhere near sash street though, as others have said..

Well I actually just ran into the girl who found it, lol. She's at the college.

Pretty sure it was found at the back of Oxford Gardens, the bit that backs onto the playing field behind John Wheeldon school.

I have a dim memory of someone being killed in the church yard on Foregate street where the flats are now, some thing to do with a RAF bloke and Bill Emery's wife, from the undertakers, it must have been in the 60's, I cant find anything on the web though except this

edit: I've just been asking the wife and she remembers it too, she thinks Mrs Emery was strangled at the back of the pub that is at the end of the road (al shiek's?) and her body dumped in the grave yard, by a RAF man that she was "enjoying the company of".
There are other details that she remembers but they may be libel, and I can't repeat them.

I was told about that a couple of weeks ago actually; it was massive scandal at the time, no doubt due to the same libelous rumours.
