Good restaurant for a large group - suggestions please

Hi all! I'm new but impressed with all the info I found here on the forum.

I need to book an evening meal in Stafford for about 18 people. Any suggestions for good venues?

We could do with being close to the centre of town as we'll be staying out after the meal. Nowhere too stuffy or formal as we'll be quite noisy! A separate room or dining area would be ideal.

Already considering:
The Muse
Essense of the Orient
Castle Tavern
Off the list:
Tequila Red (I just saw the post about it closing again!)
No 5 (already booked up)

Anywhere good I've missed?

Thanks in advance.

Any particular sort of food? If you like Indian then Malabar is great, and if they put up with us they'll put up with anyone!

lol i cannot believe how much we have abused that place over the years mate and yet the STILL welcome us with open arms! a real friendly bunch and food to die for - gets my vote also.

You'd think they'd panic when they saw us coming, I'm even more awkward as I usually have a 50/50 of 2 completely different meals :D

EDIT: I can recommend the duck kyberi kharai, I just can't spell it.

town is bit of a loss these days however if you've got a few different preferences to please then maybe try Pastiche in Mill Street. Usually a varied menu and reasonably priced however the booze can bump up the bill a bit........

i agree, the town is a sad place to eat and drink out these days

maybe consider a trip to the country - the london house in eccleshall is a fine curry house, the hand and cleaver at ranton does splendid food and has a choice of real ales and if you give them enough notice you could probably take over the star at cop mere - all good places to eat ...then pile into your minibus

The Shrewsbury Arms in Kingstone and the Horns in Gnosall have proved to be very pleasant eateries.

the swan? hmm.. if u never leave stafford then the swan may seem a notch above - but if u have ventured outside the boundary then a single visit tells you its way to smug for its substance

I get taken to London House by someone who thinks it's marvellous, but I would really prefer to go to Stafford Balti - it's better and it's half the price.
