That's right. Get used to lots more of this sort of thing. When people who have everything are in charge of those who have considerably less, this sort of thing becomes the norm. Imagine what it will be like on a national scale if (when) the Tories are in government. 16 of the 29 Conservative front bench are millionaires, (a few months ago it was 19 out of 29), so their kids won't be on free school buses, will they?

These sorts of cuts are exactly the same type as Thatcher would have made - 'sod the many, we're here for the few'.

It is inexcusable that more parents will be forced to either drive their kids to school, adding time and financial stress to their lives, as well as filling the already busy roads with cars and the air with pollutants, or have to pay for private transport which will cost a fortune.

This is the classic Conservative coming out. They have not changed, and the majority of us don't believe they have. There will be more cuts which will cost the least well-off dearly, while they continue to quaff champagne.

This reminds me of George Osborne and David Cameron going on about getting 500,000 people off disability benefits and back in to work. That's right, show your true colours, boys - pick on the weakest and most vulnerable in society. How can they do this? Because millionaires don't have to care.

The Tories are not offering 'real change' but a return to having 'the nasty party' in power. We need a fairer way forward.

This is a step backwards, surely investing in more busses is necessary? I for one would love to see the hoards of 4x4's surrounding schools like moths to a lightbulb every morning disappear in favour of a bus, or even promoting walking/cycling to school with your younger children and the older ones can walk or cycle themselves. Something that I know nothing about, and I'm hoping someone can inform me of this, is catchment areas. How do they work, do you have to be local to the school, or in the same town or area of town in general?

I must admit though sofa I agree with the disability proposals. Its so incredibly easy to get signed off with things like depression, you literally have to ask for it and you get it. I know this, I have been treated like this. In fact no, I wasn't, I was stressed but the dr was adament i was depressed and tried to sign me off with depression and force drugs down my throat. So imagine if you're not in a position to decide for yourself if you're stressed/depressed etc. and you just take the GP's advice at face value? How many other disabilities are 'given out' like this inappropriately?

Would it be a good idea to perform a survey of everyone claiming disaility allowance to ask them their feelings on working, whether they think they could work full or part time and in which sectors? I know this is borderline research and something very baron to the government, but its worth a shot!

I also imagine there are lots of people out there who are not allowed to work, i.e. forced not to by legislation who would be capable of at least part time work, and they want to work. A good example is a young man (20 years old at the time) who my ex used to support (she ran a young homeless scheme in lichfield until recently) who suffers with epilepsy and as a result was told catagorically he cannot work until he's fit-free for 12 months. Well this pretty much is never going to happen and the poor lad (who used to work as a tyre fitter) wants nothing more than to get back to work. I'm not sure if he's working now, I hope he has been fit free for long enough but I doubt it.

Can't belive I'm defending the Tories, but....

I know people who lie about a disability to claim benefits. I know people who make sure they are clued up on exactly what benefits they can get, what is easy to blag, and end up better off than me both financially and in the free time they have got to do as they please. These people are frikkin parasites, and NEED to be kicked off disability benefits. I for one would welcome a second look over a large number of benefits claimants, just to get scum like this off them.

Please keep all further discussion of benefits to the The Big Benefits & Employment Thread. A good way to do this would be to quote the post from this thread, but then rather than press the Submit button just copy & paste it into a new reply in the benefits thread.

Thanks. :)

No probs, will do in future. Didn't really think about it as I was essentially defending one of the tories policies (damnit!), so thought it fitted in here.

What about 4x4 buses? Then everybody would be happy.
Then they could just drive across the common from Balfour to Sandon Road... (just spotted on b3ta: http://www.b3tards.com/u/67f98b0e3909eff8f955/monsterbus.jpg )

Not only that, but some people seem to think kids shouldn't be allowed to cycle on the paths. This means our roads will be crammed with 4x4s and BMXs, that is just not acceptable!

How can you possibly want to ban BMX's???????
Bicycle Motor(X)cross.

A bad idea in the 80s which seems to have lived on. They were designed for off road use.

I'd like to see quite a few things banned, here is a short list:
Caravans, minimotos, the Citroen Picasso, BMWs, 4x4s that will never go off road, the Comic Sans font

Umbrellas, golf, irrelevant signs, pensioners, 'health and safety', paying with a card for less than ten quid, - I could go on....
