Would recommend the free AVAST instead of AVG. I've been very happy with it so far and it comes highly recommended.

just go into add/remove programs and un-install malwarebytes until further notice then Andy. As soon as it's time to re-install you'll be able to install the free and it will come back on as full version again ;)
Ta..... owe you a drink.

when i started my pc tonight avg updater started running on its own, it updated restarted then started playing silly buggers again, after several curse assisted restarts i got it working and have removed mallware bytes, seems ok now ( i really must stop tempting fate by saying that ).
I can appreciate that it must be hard for antivirus designers to create a product which has to search out bad code whilst living in peace with many other running programs but perhaps a little more mutual r&d with similar companies would benefit us poor souls who know bugger all about pc's

I think you may have AVG 9 on it, so same applies to you. If I installed it with Malwarebytes, go into START, CONTROL PANEL, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and get rid of Malwarebytes for now. :)

Agreed it's on a par, but the downside to Avast is that users are forced to register... and not just as a one off but every 12 months. Most people can't be bothered so they end up with an inactive anti-virus after 12 months. Not only that but it makes setting up customers computers a right pain too.
For anyone who can be bothered to register though (it's free), then it's worth giving it a try. Note - an email address is required before you register.

i dumped AVG a long time ago (after wmr's excellent and extensive report) in favour of avira.. but i've since dumped that for microsoft security essentials! it's free, it integrates perfectly into windows, and it doesn't nag you to upgrade to a "premium" version.. it's been getting surprisngly good reviews from nerdy tech sites, who normally hate anything "micro$oft", so that's good enough for me!

I'm currently running MSE and Malwarebytes, with no apparent problems. My bank is suggesting that I download Trusteer - any thoughts??..

Trusteer Rapport is very good. It basically ensures that it really is your banks servers that you are visiting. If they are offering it for you, then use it! It doesn't conflict in any way with your current AV programs or anything, but it's a worthwhile little add-on! ;)

Thanks for that - I was just a bit concerned about conflicts, etc...

+1
