Hmmmmm! I did comment to the wife the other day that there are several independent shops in the town that seem to be immune to the current retail climate (i.e. never see a soul in there buying anything hower, they seem to be thriving!).
Very kind birthday wishes, thank-you all (reached 47 today). Been a nice day up to yet, had lunch at the Saracen's Head & I will be spending this evening with my loved ones..............(Aston Villa).
The concept of the 'bricks & mortar' department store is dead I am afraid. Everyone carries the world's biggest department store around in their pocket. I am typing this message on it now....
Would be interesting to know if the developers had permission to remove the hedgerow @Lucy was referring to. Most hedgerows are protected by the Hedgerow Regulations (1997) so they would have to submit a Planning Application to the Council to get rid of it.
Ha Ha!. I was walking past there earlier & saw, what an absolute doughnut. There was a recovery-truck parked-up by Mc Donald's which I assume had been sent to retrieve it. I hope the guy had got some waders!.
Lake Kingsmead yesterday. Glad the Red Fiesta's registration plate was covered by water, wouldn't want to see them getting a fine for overstaying the time limit.......
Shame, I know plenty who do the Ironman & it always brings crowds of people into the town. I think maybe it was starting to have its day a bit though. There is only a limited pool of folks who want to put themselves through something like that & once they have done a particular event they want...
We went on Saturday evening. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would to be fair. The Gatehouse have also made an effort with the decor all around the theatre. We got a deal on the tickets which were £20 each which seemed about right. I think they are being a bit optimistic with the £35 full price.
The town centre is getting more like the wild west at night. Getting sick of the gangs of 'youts (black hoodie/puffer jacket, black trackie bottoms & black Nike trainers brigade) hanging around Mc Donald's. You would think the old bill might start doing something about it......
Popped into town for the first time in a few weeks today. Didn't realise that The Bakehouse cafe had closed. Shame, it was a lovely cafe however, the owner has decided to retire apparently.
Folks don't always take the size they order!. My wife ran the Barcelona half marathon a few weeks ago & their t-shirts were running really small. Everyone was having to go up a size or even two in some cases.
Mammoth took over the former Boston's Fiat premises at Milford when the car dealership closed.
Around the same time Run & Ride opened the shop at the western end of North Walls (they also had a store in Hednesford at that time as well).
After a few years Mammoth closed their store in Milford &...
The whole thing can be intimidating to be honest. It seems to be mostly young guys that want to seek asylum, the women, children & older folks where they are from must love it & don't want to come because I didn't see any of them at the Holiday Inn Ha Ha!.
I didn't think COVID-19 was a 'thing' any more but it has unfortunately managed to get me for the 2nd time!. Not felt nearly as rough this time around though.
Plenty of hotels are cashing in on this. The Holiday Inn & Roman Way hotels in Cannock have both been block booked for months housing asylum seekers. I went to a training course at the Holiday Inn back in January & wandered into the hotel by mistake (instead of the conference suite next door)...
