They all appear to be fairly crap with money, who the he'll spends over a grand on utility bills per month? I see gym memberships too, you can't plead poverty if spending £50 a month on something you don't need.

The numbers don't stack up in my opinion.
It's an terraced house which looks to be around 1000 sq ft and of modern construction. Heating that would be no more than £400 a year (even on oil / I can't see it using over 1000 litres a year). Council tax band wise due to the fact it is in Surrey I would believe it is probably a band E so I would guess around £2000-£2500 a year in council tax.
Being modern it is probably on a water meter and if not then the rateable value would under £700 a year.
The average home uses around 3,000 kWh of power a year in electric. If they are paying 12p per kWh then power wise that would £360 a year.

Perhaps they have very expensive mobile contracts and have bundled in an expensive sky package with the costs, even then I can't see how it could be £1k a month.

What on earth? The grocery costs are huge.

Many people at work are amazed I don't have Sky. Unfortunately the culture we're in means it's viewed as a necessity, not a luxury.

I don't have sky either. My energy bills are very high, but even I only spend about £350ish a month.

Gas/Electricity: £130
Phone/BB: £24
House insurance: £14
Council tax: £115
Water: £40
Mobile: £21

I don't have sky or any subscriptions or phone contracts or nothing like that. I see those as luxuries.i know people who whinge that they are broke (on benefits) yet they have Magazine subcriptions, Sky , the best broadband, phone contract etc etc basically sh#t they don't need. They will struggle to buy a decent weekly shop . Some people need to sort their priorities out

I suppose they might have a service charge and maybe have ground rent, but the figures are basically a load of crap.

Even if you had a 5000 square foot 16th century timber framed house heated with oil you would be paying less than 1k a month. Sloppy journalism with no research going into it or checking of facts.

E.g Heating, electric, council tax, insurance etc for this place (16th century wealden hall back with 17th century queen anne front - which is 5x the size or 7x if you include the old granary annexe building) are less than these people claim to be spending.
