1 bed Accommodation Wanted

Ideally self-contained with bathroom and kitchen, as I need my own space and want my own utility bills as I am a low user. I can afford up to about £300 pcm (£75 pw) - I know it's a long shot but my current place is driving me insane!

I have a 1 bed self contained flat on Doxey and my rent alone is £425. It did come furnished but i must say you're aiming a bit high there. The cheapest i found when hunting was above the shops on Holmcroft for £325 unfurnished and it was a crack den. You needs a bigger budget love. I have a garage you can sleep in for a nominal fee.

I thought that was in Sash Street.

I have furniture, so that's not a problem. As long as it's not damp and mouldy and doesn't cost a bomb to heat I don't give a smeg. I'm entitled to a bit more Housing Benefit in a couple of months so £325 is probably do-able.

I used to rent an unfurnished 1 bedroom flat with my other half at the time on peter james court - that was £375 a month in rent alone!

When I moved out I did look about a bit but the best deal I could find (albeit at short notice) was a room in a shared house, all bills inc. for £340 pcm. And that was a dive - anyone who remembers my 'place' on Alexandra road will know what I'm talking about.

i use to pay £300 pcm all bills included for an unfurnished one bed flat opposite the chippy on stone road....but we are talking about 2003.

if i remember rightly there were some relatively cheap bedsits around park street and over the other side of wolverhampton road when i was looking....but again, that was along time ago so i have no idea about the current rents.

you may also find that you dont get offered better properties becuase of your dss status. im not saying it to be harsh, just that many private landlords wont accept dss because of the issues with getting paid.

have you tried getting in touch with one of the housing associations? are you on their books for a property?

DSS often pay rent direct to the landlord, however as they're usually at home all day the property gets more wear and tear and in my experience..... Trashed!...........

I was under the impression they stopped paying housing benefit directly to the landlord a few years back.

possibly why landlords are even less inclined to accept dss.

i know of landlords who waited ages to be paid because of all the bureaucracy, its a very simple reason why i dont accept it for any of my tenants.

and as per basil comments, i had a short term tenant who was unemployed (due to seasonal work and not on benefits) and my sofa developed a saggy spot where his fat lazy ass ahd been sat aaaaallllll day whilst id been otu at work. boy was i glad to see the back of that one- serious fail on my part
