If its something you can fix, do it. If you can't, no point complaining. I lead a pretty happy life by this, and am rarely upset. The tricky bit is deciding what is within your power, or who you can influence that has it.

That's wisdom that comes with age I imagine tek, presumably why the older you are the more laid back you tend to be (there's hope for me yet!)

Now, you know me Lunar, not one for giving stuff to the poor for no good reason etc. but your conditions sound appalling. My housemate's better half was in a flat on highfields (near the keep) for a short period and I thought that was a shit hole, as in below what even yours truly would judge to be adequate housing, and it was no where near what you have described.

If I were you I would definitely take advantage of the CAB if you can work it around your working hours - I think cookie mentioned earlier they are a PITA to get hold of usually.

Congratulations on the job by the way, it's taken me some days to get over but thankfully no heart attack as predicted :P

I have Mondays off, and I've booked Tuesday and Wednesday off this week as I've been working hard and need a bit of a break so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Getting SARH to do anything without sustained, relentless pestering and badgering is a bloody miracle - the fact is, these flats are in a concrete block that does not have adequate insulation or ventilation and I can't see this being resolved any time soon! If I had more time and energy to organise a campaign against them I would, but I'd rather have an easy life and find somewhere without a damp problem and a decent landlord who actually does sh*t so as much as it pains me to say this, private sector it is...
