100 months to Save the Planet... 96 Months left

In August 2008 the New Economic Foundation warned that, unless we make real changes, we have 100 months until the climate balance tips irrecoverably into chaos.

Read the Guardian article by Andrew Simms (NEF) or see the 'live countdown clock' (scarey)

Watch this page: Each month we I list the significant actions (if any) national and local government have made toward averting climate chaos:

What they did:
National Government
Nov/Dec 08 Nothing yet

Oct 08: Stansted expansion permission, 20,000 more flights per year

Sept 08: Govt Lobby to exclude aviation from EU emissions

Aug 08 Nothing yet

Local Government

Dec 08 Nothing yet
Nov 08 Staffordshire County Council deicide to go ahead with massive incinerator regardless of the environmental cost.

Oct 08: Staffordshire County Council (SCC) responds to greens calls for a 'Zero Waste strategy' with the statement from John Wakefield that "A strong economy generates waste"

Sept 08: Nothing yet.

Aug 08: The flag of Tuvalu, a tropical island nation threatened by climate change, is flown over County Buildings in Stafford by Staffordshire County Council (SCC). Meanwhile:
a) Staffordshire County Council (SCC) continues to plan to build a massive 300,000 tonne incinerator rather than Recycle (See below).
b) Staffordshire County Council (SCC) remove bus subsidies.

Jesus christ man... do you have to be so melodramatic?

96 Months until what? We have winters like the russians? They survive ok. Summers like the Mexicans? They survive ok too.

Personally all this save the planet crap being forced down my throat constantly is making me less and less concerned about the environment. Seein as I have absolutely no intention of bringing children into this world, and as such have very little interest in it's future after I'm gone I'm off to buy an american car and print 100 copies of the bible, for no good reason whatsoever.

Laters!

We've had jovos round twice this week, with their full coloured god propaganda. Wonder how many trees they waste?

One was quite put out when I told them I'm an atheist and proud of it, the bosses dog chewed up the pamphlet after they'd gone....

EDIT: Oh yeah, planet. TBH, I spend so much time at work and pay so much in tax that I really can't be arsed to spend my free time trying to make a difference. Sorry, but thats just how it is. Not seen my GF since Sunday morning and she only lives round the corner, so with time at a premium I'll do things for me rather than the planet.

I know that sounds like I don't give a damn, but TBH my hapiness will always come before that of the planet. Especially when all we have to go on is different scientists ideas of what is going to happen. Face it, none of us have a clue. We just choose the group that believes what we want to be true.

Or has the most powerful brainwashing / propaganda.

I agree with Tek on this one, I'm too busy at work paying for other people to live gratis to want to give up my minimal free time.

Do you honestly think the world will end in 8 years? If so you're a bigger loon than first assumed.

Actually, yeah. Let those without jobs save the planet, they have nowt else to do. Clean up rubbish, sort recycling, all that shiz I don't have time for. Seems a fair plan, also means all of us could stop whinging about spongebobs, as they'd actually be contributing.

Yup I have thought this for years, get those in unemployment doing this, there's loads to be done too. AND it would be a great incentive to go looking for work. No doubt they'd use it as an excuse not to look for work and whinge about not having the time because of the 8 hours (or something equally pathetic our liberal spinless government would impliment) a week of 'work' they had to do.

Edit: Spelling

TBH I'd always wanted those with community service to do this rather than the unemployed, make it a proper punishment rather than the laugh I've been told it is.

Yeah but then again we all know what justice is like in this country and this will never happen. Neither will the former idea, unfortunately.

Then again, those doing community service are likely to be unemployed anyway, violence and crime is always higher in areas of lower employment.

Edit: We're gettin pro's at this derailing game

Generally true maybe, but I'd like to see a few premiership footy players rooting through the tip for tin cans. Degradation is a much better deterrent when you have further to fall.

I know, derailed a few of my own before I've even hit submit!

Oh yeah, planet...... :D

About 25 years ago I used to get regular visits until one day when I was painting the downspout and they trapped me up the ladder for a while until I asked them if they were the ones who believed that everybody would be resurrected on the final day. When they assured me that that would happen I pointed out that we would prefer that Hitler and Stalin didn't end up living round here afterwards. They seemed to have no answer to that and have never been back here since. You could try it, but they have had 25 years to think of an answer.
