A GENUINE and UNCURABLE virus alert!

Hi folks. I bring you all news of a fairly recent virus who's variants are RAMNIT.A, Ramnit.C, and Ramnit.X

It became known to people in the tech field around the 4th of April, and I've today seen my 2nd case of it - and the destruction it causes! Therefore please note the following....

It is a file infector, and WILL destroy files.
It spreads so rapidly that it is untouchable by ANY anti-virus product.
It jumps VERY quickly onto USB memory devices, so DON'T instantly ram one into your computer thinking of backing files up in a hurry if you are unlucky enough to get it!

This is quite possibly THE most destructive malware I have seen to date. It has taken me several days to perfect the best way of recovering your important files in order so that your hard drive can be re-formatted (wiped), which is looking like the ONLY way to get rid of this one. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT - Switch off your computer and LEAVE IT OFF!
Contact me on 07871 613924 if you then require my support.

THE IMPORTANT QUESTION - HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE GOT IT?

I will update this thread as I learn more signs and symptoms, but at the moment BOTH of the systems I have seen had one thing in common. Search for something on Google - WMR Computers for example. If you then click on the 3 top results (which are all my website), then you will find yourself being randomly redirected to other websites and not mine!
IF YOU NOTICE THIS BEHAVIOUR OR ARE ALREADY HAVING THIS SYMPTOM THEN PLEASE PULL THE POWER AND CALL ME!

Also, as I'm sure most forumites are aware, I'm not the kind of person to repeat what I read in a spam email or such-like. I am informing you based on 2 REALITY CASES in just 2 weeks or so.

If you wish to learn more check out this link

Thank you.

Thanks for the warning wmr. I seem to be ok but what can you do to avoid it? Is it best to stay out of the virtual water while there is a shark about? How do you get infected? Does anyone know?

What's 'best practice' in such circumstances?

As with most viruses and covering what I've previously said in other posts - don't open links or email attachments from people u don't know, or links that you don't expect. To be honest I think a HUGE amount of these things are being spread via Facebook at the moment. Keep your wits about you and if you don't need to click it then DON'T - that's all I can really say at this point.

SYMPTOM 2

If you have a USB pen drive (memory pen) that you don't mind being infected and has nothing important on it (I could clean it at the same time as a PC for no extra charge), then plug it into a USB port. Usual behaviour is that the light on it flashes for a few seconds as windows says the usual "hello what are you" to it. Then the light should go off and stay off. If it starts blinking again after a pause, maybe repeating this behaviour 2 or 3 times over - there's a good chance it's the RAMNIT virus.
However, if this proves so DO NOT go thinking "I'll now use this memory pen to test our other computers" as you will INSTANTLY pass on the infection from the memory pen to the next PC.

And this is why i never signed up to facebook.
Likewise my friend. The forum / Email and text messages have always been adequate for myself to keep in touch with friends and family ;)
