The A449 is currently closed south of Wolverhampton, and seems likely to remain closed for some time, due to a 'serious collision'.

Staffordshire Police say -

At 5:20pm on Friday 25th November 2016 emergency services attended the scene a serious road traffic collision on the A449 at Penn Cottage, Lower Penn, (near Wombourne) South Staffordshire.

The collision involved a black VW Scirocco and a pedestrian who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The man who died, who is yet to be formally identified, is believed to be a 90-year-old local man, and specially trained family liaison officers are supporting his family at this difficult time. A post mortem examination will take place on Monday.

Two men have been arrested by Staffordshire detectives for offences connected with the incident, they are a 27-year-old from Wolverhampton and a 25-year-old from Kingswinford.

A vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision has been recovered and is undergoing examination as part of the detailed investigation into this incident.
