Anyone know anything? Lights were out all around the main island, and saw a car on it's roof. When we reached rising brook we saw an air ambulance taking off into the skies so it doesn't sound great news.

I'm very sorry to hear this.

However, if this is where the road markings are where the right hand lane splits off into 2 and and the left lane carries on up the Lichfield Road then I hope they finally do something to warn drivers.

Either the lane destinations should be changed or the dashed line in the middle should be repainted solid to warn drivers not to cut across at that point.

No, it was the other side of the carriageway. Although I can't be sure for certain, I would hazzard a guess that the car had came from the wolverhampton road direction and ended up to the left of the lights (as if heading left for the town centre), or could possibly have been coming from the lammascote direction heading in towards the town. All i saw was a set of traffic lights down and I assume it shorted the electrics as all of the lights around the entire island were off. (I initially thought the lights being off may have caused the accident, but after seeing the set of lights which were demolished a couple of hours later I figured that would more likely have caused the lights to go off as a result of the accident)

Had a search on local radio news etc. but can't find any news yet. I do hope that whoever was airlifted makes a recovery from this.

A Corsa ran a red light at about 90mph and hit a BMW.
Is this fact or rumour? How on earth did he manage to get to that speed? I'm not being funny but with the layout and congestion of Stafford's roads, I wouldn't think it would be impossible.

I'd find it hard to argue with anyone saying the car on its roof was going too fast. 90mph...maybe not. Too fast...certainly. I can't imagine it's easy to flip a car doing 30. :(

How ever it happened the lights were out all the way around the island and the traffic was moving perfectly. Surprise surprise.

I would like to agree, and although this is usually quite true I happened to end up behind 2 different vehicles which just sat there confused as to what they are meant to do in such a situation. (I often wonder how these people ever make it off their driveway in the first place)

this also happened many years ago when high winds blew down some of the lights on the fancifully named Lichfield Road Gyratory System.

And that is a true name.

My brother rang to check hubby was home safely as he comes that way about same time as accident. Said he saw about 4 ambulances and 3 fire engines, with a car on it's roof with the occupants being cut out.

i was there and witnessed the crash all 3 people in the corsa escaped with minor cuts and back pains no body had to be cut out as we managed to pull them out to safety before the emergency services arrived the asian bloke in the bmw was untouched so every one involved was lucky really

Strange how some witnesses saw people being cut out of a vehicle and others didn't. Just shows how rumours become exaggerated! Glad to hear no-one was killed or seriously injured. So was the corsa doing 90mph as was also witnessed? What caused the impact so powerful that a car ended up on its roof in heavy traffic..?

A friend of mine put a silver Toyota Corolla into a garden in full view of a bus queue. I saw the witness statements and one said that it was a red Land Rover!
