Decided to post this in for sale, because I'll be posting about things you can all buy. Feel free to ask questions though.

Please be aware I am not endorsing these sellers. A lot of these items I've never seen before, or used the sellers websites before, I just thought I'd let you know how things are going for me so that you can make your own decisions. Always pay with paypal, that way nobody has your card details and its easier to dispute things.

So, lately I've been ordering a few bits and pieces from abroad. Once you accept that delivery could be a month there are some great bargains to be had, but also a lot of crap to wade through. I've now started to receive a few of the items and I thought I'd post a few of the things I have ordered, as more arrive I'll let you know what I think of them.

First off is the power bank I posted the other day. These are great, look and feel very premium but only £8 (prices fluctuate a lot, I got this for £7.83 but currently sitting at £8.34). Not had it long enough to fully test yet but first impressions are great. 10,000 mAh, made in a very apple-like way (metal and white plastic), smaller and lighter than my other portable battery too. This one actually arrived in about 2 weeks, it does say up to 25 business days though. Available here:

Next up, I got some small LED USB lights. I got 2 types, just to see what they were like.

First up, I got these:

The ones I ordered were just 31p each, but are now £3! These are the cheapest I could see right now for the same product, and are 59p. I ordered on the 9th of October, and they arrived Monday. Look sturdy, the cap stays on well, and most importantly a lot of light output. No idea what I'll use them for yet, I use USB lights when camping (attached to the portable battery pack) but it could do with being directional. Certainly enough to read by very easily if angled properly.

Next up I got these:

Similar idea, but more LEDs and less robust (no casing). This is brighter than the above, but also has a rather smart touch feature. I only played with it briefly, but the light fades in/out when touched and it appears by varying how long you hold it for you vary the light output. Because it has no casing you couldn't carry it around in your pocket for too long before your keys damaged it I expect, but its a nice little gadget. Seem to sell for about 80p each.

Right, lets do something not LED related! This is yet to arrive so can't comment on quality yet.

These model kits are simply a few thin sheets of laser etched metal, that you cut out and assemble yourself to make a very small model. You'll get something like this:

These have the potential to be great or a load of crap, but at £2.65 I thought I'd get a few as little presents. There is a massive variety of models, from star wars to buildings to the mars rover, and prices vary a LOT too. Here is an idea of the sizes:

I'll let you know what they are like when they arrive, here is a link to the buildings:

Last one for today, a waterproof rechargeable speaker for £8. I don't have this one as such, but I have one that looks exactly the same:

Its bluetooth, quite loud considering and has a sucker on the back to use in the shower. Apparently it shouldn't be fully submerged, as I guess water can get into the rubber flaps that cover the USB after a while, but I have used it under the shower head without issue. Charges via USB, no idea how long it lasts but I used mine for at least 3 hours so far. Be great for attaching to your bag when on the beach etc.

Great idea for a thread, tek.

I bought 3 similar speakers for around the £7 mark last year and we were amazed at the sound quality and volume. On ours the charging cables all failed rather quickly and some arrived with faulty cables, but we found a multi-usb cable at poundland that did the job.... I can't remember how much it cost ;)
The same ones are now for sale at B&M for around £8 though, so I'd possibly just buy from there as you have somewhere to take it back if it fails.
Just went to search for a picture and here they are for under a fiver

I did look at those same speakers (£3.71 here) but went for the one I did as its higher powered and I've already tested the build quality (assuming it is the same as mine). Agree though if you can get it for just a quids difference on ebay its mad to order from china! Actually some of those model kits are available on ebay too, although they still ship from china at least you are dealing with a website you know.

The same models vary a lot in price, that mustang goes for between £2 and £5 and some chancers are wanting £15 for the star wars ones!

Lord Tek monkey sugar - you should get a stall in the market for all things gadget and sell information on best buys you're like the which? Of stafford full of useful advice.

Lol, I'd never make a penny as I like to talk about gadgets. That's why I started this thread, if I can help one person buy the right thing or not buy the wrong one then I'll be happy. As I decided to get the stocking fillers in early this year I can afford to take risks on some of the odder stuff, and if it arrives in time I can possibly help others save a few quid too.
