Because people are booked up or because you've got too much else on?
Cost at the min, paying for two premises as well as all the repair work on the new place. Plus I want to see the safety certificate from the electrician that signed this off before I start altering anything major, still not got that. I'm assuming thats a requirement to get insurance? I'm not dealing with that side so not sure.

Walked past today and looking good :) Didn't dare have too much of a nose as Mrs Tek was looking out at me, and didn't know if it was you or a workman who also must have wondered who the nosy woman was :D

What time? Was most likely Mrs Tek's mum, as Mrs Tek will be at the old shop still. Well, I say Mrs Tek, more like Tek's partner.....
If the 'workman' looked under 50 it was me on my lunch break, if not it would be Mrs Teks Mums Partner (try saying that after a few shandys!).

TBH the more time I work in there the more I:

a) Thing she's overpaying for the state the premises were in
b) Will have a lot more visibility which will hopefully offset point a

I probably get at least 1 person every 2 hours I know banging on the window, regardless of what day I'm in there. Just goes to show that position really is important, if only the premises were as good as the current ones we'd be laughing (and I wouldn't have a bad back and several cuts/bruises).

Surely the landlord should be getting the basics sorted at his cost...

I wish! They only rent you a shell but are responsible for anything in there when provided, and I'm not exactly happy with those. The place in Tipping Street was in great shape when we rented it, and I'll be sure it is again when we leave, but this place was needed ripping apart and starting again. We've not even touched the upstairs yet, other than to block off the one side from the shop so it can be rented as an office.

What is an office in town worth nowadays? Not the most desirable entrance but 2 rooms about 4x4m each and a car parking space. Possibly also a lockup. I guess thats my next job once the shop is up and running, got some CCTV to install too.

I think that location will work really well for your shop - anyone who walks / drives past will know it's there and with those kind of shops knowledge that it exists is key.

Similarily I don't need a wedding dress but I know where all the wedding dress shops in Stafford are.

It does seem visibility is key, just annoying the work involved to get it even near the standard of the last place :(
If anyone goes past tonight, I've had a play with the lighting. I turned off the top lights in the right window til I can fit the dimmer and put some colour changing spots in the bottom to test for when it's prom season. Would be interested to hear how they look as was still a bit light when I left town.

Drove past a bit ago. Lighting looks good and really makes it stand out.

Are you getting a glitterball to go with the changing coloured lighting on the right?

It has been mentioned!

Those are temporary, they were cheap Chinese tat and I wanted to test the synchonicity of the bulbs. After 4 hours they were still bang in synch, I am impressed! The idea is the windows will have bar lights across the top in daylight white that are dimmable, there will be lower and upper downlights that can be aimed which will have swappable bulbs in. Each window pane will contain one dummy, and will have 2x 50cm daylight strips and one GU10 above and 2 GU10 below. My OH will be able to choose which GU10 are used as they are easy to swap, so will have warm and cool white plus the colour ones currently in place. This way she can choose to light each dress dummy almost individually by alternating the bulbs or colours on each window, although the top strip lights will only be controllable across the entire display (left or right of the door will be on a dimmer each). I imagine we'll use warm or daylight white most of the time, but in prom season may use alternating colours from below to make it stand out a bit.

I should really be spending more time getting the walls straight, but I like playing with lighting!

Had another peep through the windows as we went past today . Love the changing colour lighting in the window!
Thanks :)
Not sure how permanent that is yet, thinking for prom dresses etc. but not normal stuff. Trying to give my oh options, she can change the spotlight bulbs easily enough so can choose what is being highlighted and in what colour.

Lack of updates lately, but only as we've been busy. Carpets are in, it's starting to look like a shop :D
