All new pond help thread

wanna see my snake?
As those who have read the mundane thread will know my pond collapsed, and now needs a complete rebuild. Whilst seriously not impressed I realise this could be the time to do it better, although it will cost a bit. So I just wondered if anyone had mates that knew about ponds, in particular can I use a bottom drain with a pond liner?

Just spent an hour moving soil from one spot to another just 6 feet away, as I realised the new paddling pool for their temporary home wouldn't fit. Now to set that up, move the fish and get a better look at the damage.

And now it looks like one of my fishies is dying :( He got stuck in the net when we moved him, dunno how but his lower rear fin got caught (he's a bit of a spiny bugger with very odd huge scales), was lots of thrashing around and in the end I had to cut the net. Today he's lying on the bottom of the pond, think the stress got him but I expected him to have died quicker if so as that happened on Friday.

In other news, looking to get the veg filter fixed. To stop the outlet pipes blocking again I was thinking of this:

My question is can I use it with the holes I already have? They are near the top, about where I want the water level in fact. I was thinking a 90 degree elbow pointing straight down with these on each, but that would give me a reverse U bend (n bend?). Would the air in this affect the flow, or would it just get pushed out with the water? Its gravity not pumped.

If air can get into a position from which it has to go downhill to get out, then you could have a problem.

Hmm, thought so. Can't think how to do it without re-drilling and filling though :(

Put a fitting in the original hole with a 90 degree bend facing upwards. A foot of pipe above the water level and you'll be OK. Put new outlets where you need them to be.

Was thinking similar, join them up on the outside of the tank level but then put a tee in facing up/down. Any air can then get out but gravity should keep the water flowing. The outlets are at the height I want the water, but a bottom drain with a vertical pipe to the correct height is probably better.
