American Football

I thought this was a good place to post to see if anyone is looking to play american football,

I am trying to get players for the Tamworth Phoenix. The Phoenix were founded in 2004 by Dave Winter, Jay Alexander, Ed Winter and Ryan Baker, after re-establishing youth football in the area, as the Tamworth Trojans, a year earlier. In their first season 2008, the Phoenix came 2nd in the BAFL2 Central conference behind champions the Nottingham Caesars. However, they avenged this by defeating them in the playoffs on route to a BritBowl 2 final defeat to the London Cobras, also a first year club.
Despite defeat in the BritBowl 2 final, Tamworth Phoenix were promoted to BAFL1 division and placed in the South-West Conference. The Phoenix completed the regualar season with a record of 9-1, winning the South-West Conference, and moved into the playoffs as the #2 seed. After a victory over the Kent Exiles in the first round of the playoffs, their run was halted at the semi final stage by the East Kilbride Pirates. In the 2010 season the Phoenix went an amzing 13-0 an won them the Division 1 championship and promotion to the Premiership. In there first match of 2011 they player the Bristol Aztecs and lost. They are currently 2-3 with two big wins.

After reading that I'm sure alot of you might be thinking why am I trying to get player for a team that have only lost 3 games in 2 years. Well as the team is rather large at the minute the coaching staff thought it would be a good idea to form a 'B' team know as the Tamworth Phoenix Development Squad. This is for some players that just want to try the sport and are from the area and older players that might just want to play a few games a year. For the 2011 we are hoping to get 2 games sorted against teams in either div 1 or div 2 and maybe a uni team. If you join the development team like any football 'B' team you will have the chance to play for the Tamworth Phoenix 'A' team as you will be on the books. If you don't want to put in the time and train 2 times a week for the 'A' team then the development squad is for you. We will try to arrange about 8 games a year and only ask for 3 or 4 weeks before the game for you to train. This team is just for fun so we will not make you do something that you don't want to do. So if your 6'5 and 280 pounds but want to be a running back then give it a go, same as if your 5'4 and 110 pounds but want to be a lineman you can try it here.

If you want to know anymore info about this feel free to email me on paulwalker89@live.co.uk, add me on facebook www.facebook.com/Paul1366 or text me on 07811664190.

I hope many of you would like to try this out.

Many thanks

I used to play a bit, still got some of my kit... don't think my body could take another pounding though. And Tamworth is a bit of a trek.

If anyone wants to get into playing and wants to buy my old kit though, let me know.

Here's a photo of one of the Tamworth Phoenix players getting to grips with ex-NFL QB Bradlee Van Pelt in last season's game against Leicester.

As well as going to the occasional Phoenix game, I also help out at the Birmingham University Lions college team.

Phoenix Looking for People to Give it a Go

The Tamworth Phoenix- the Midlands' top American football team, are now looking to recruit new players for the build up to their 2013 BAFANL Premiership campaign.

2013 promises to be a special year for the Nix, with a number of exciting changes being made within the organisation. At the top of this list is the appointment of new Head Coach Ed Winter- a Phoenix Original who is looking to continue the superb job done by previous Head Coach Graham Kelly. Coach Kelly stepped down at the end of the season to return to his native North East, but not before delivering the Phoenix to the playoffs for their fifth consecutive season. We are now looking to recruit new members to our young but experienced squad so that we can push for playoff appearance number six, and make a run at the National Championship in 2013.

If you are aged 18+ and interested in the playing the game, then we want to hear from you. Previous experience is not necessary- what we are looking for are people who have a passion for the sport, a professional attitude and the willingness to be coached. What we can offer you in exchange is a friendly, welcoming environment, and an opportunity to be coached by coaches and veteran players with many years of experience at Premiership, European and International level, who will provide you with all the tools necessary to be a part of the squad for 2013 and beyond.

The series of practices begins on Sunday September 16th at Wilnecote Leisure Centre. Sessions will last from 11am - 2pm, and cost just £3 each, which will include access to shoulder pads and a helmet. You should wear clothing that is comfortable to exercise in (preferably something that you don't mind getting dirty), and will need to provide your own boots and gumshield.

If you're interested in coming along and giving it a go, or have any queries about the sessions, then contact our Recruitment Officer James Hossack, at tamworthphoenixrecruitment@gmail.com , who will be happy to answer any of your questions. If you can't make the 16th but are still interested, be sure to email us anyway - there will be a number of regular sessions taking place throughout the course of the offseason, so you don't have to miss out.

Become a part of the Tamworth Phoenix 2013 Squad, and make your sporting future a part of our history of success.

I remember once listening to a late-night sport programme on the radio and being astounded to discover the late Ted Heath was a great fan of American Football and attended the Superbowl whenever he could. He once turned up at a swanky dinner in a Miami Dolphins sweatshirt, when everybody else was in evening dress. I can think of hardly anybody less likely...
