IMPORTANT!!!

If you have an Android phone (or possibly if you are getting one) then you NEED WaveSecure in your life.

HOWEVER apparently they are giving free lifetime service to android users if you register before 31st Jan 2010.

So get in there quick and register....
My bro just installed wavesecure, its still free :D

I can't get an iphone, people will think I'm like you ;)

I actually agree with DB, in that the iphone is great at what it does. However to make an iphone do all I want it'd need to be jailbroken, I don't want to only be allowed to install things apple say is OK. The android lets you pretty much do as you please, its working out fine for me. Plus the iphone is so last year, all the cool kids have blackberrys now.

Apple fanbois  :D

Seriously though, why would anyone want an iPhone that can't multi-task... that is truly cack for a phone that will cost you big dollar on a 24 month contract FFS.

iPhones really are for people who follow the crowd like sheep :D

Android seems so gay. Get an iphone like me. It just works. No need to feck around.
Not like you to troll dylanf ;)

An iPhone is for show. It's a lifestyle, fashion-accessory, brand for 12 year olds in velour tracksuits who parents have too much money.

But don't lose faith!

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I have heard that hitting the iPhone APP store very soon (and for and extortionate amount of money) is an APP that turns your branded, money guzzling fashion accessory into something worth owning: a Hero :slayer:

right, thanks for all your help gk.. i've decided against rooting the gf's hero, as apparently it won't benefit her in any way.. i didn't realise she could install anything she wanted, i assumed there was an app signing process so to get access to homebrew and other "unofficial" stuff she would have to root it! clearly that's not the case..

she's installed smooth calendar, barcode scanner, and a few other things you suggested and so far so impressed! i think the main problem, really, is finding the good apps in amongst all the dire shit that seems to fill up the marketplace..

i was intent on getting an iphone once the new model is out, but now i'm thinking of getting me sen an htc desire.. i'd need to check it works with my car's bluetooth shiz first, though..

anyone got any opinions on the best IMAP email app for android? the built-in one is ok, but doesn't have any configuration options for handling folders, deleted items, etc. so isn't much good for anything beyond simply reading one's inbox..

A quick Google comes up with this:

http://www.androidtapp.com/k9-mail/ - "Should you Download K9 Mail? Yes! An Essential App for Email on Android aside of Gmail!"

or

http://www.androidtapp.com/exchange-by-touchdown/ - "Should you Download Exchange By TouchDown? Yes! The features and functionality-to-cost ratio justifies the $25 expense." <wonder if you can find an *ahem* free version>

Also

Oh and I don't know if you know this, I didn't but can't remember if I read it on here, but apparently if you buy a paid app from Android Market you can uninstall it within 24 hours and you don't get charged or get a full refund... something like that.

Anyone found a decent offline map program yet?
No - they all seem to be a bit rubbish.

Sky Maps is brilliant! Am going backpacking in Snowdonia a week on Saturday and am hoping for an uber clear sky away from light pollution.

Dunno if its any use, but have those who use iChoons heard of doubleTwist? Its now on the android, and free for a limited time. Don't use iTunes myself so no use, but thought I'd let people know.

On a side note, my phone seems slow lately. From what I've read uninstalling apps does not really help, is this true?

Also, I have a few Gb of android apps sat at home, for trial use only of course. If I were to stick them up on my webspace I assume I could easily then install them to my phone? Not even tried yet, they're still rar'd up.
