I assume its closing down as thats what is on the window. Sad to see another independent close. The motto is use it or lose it

She only just relocated to Mill Street from Eccleshall last year. Few dodgy rumours doing the rounds at that time.
Mrs Trumpet used to love their sales, shoes previously marked up at £200+ going for £30 or £40.

I went past Jessops a few weeks ago and the staff were huddled outside, possibly just because the one with the key was late, but the possibility of closure did cross my mind at the time. I bought an SD card in there once, when they had a good deal on.

Jessops have gone bust

Sadly

the thing with jessops is that they are so over priced.

This!

You perhaps wouldn't mind spending 5 or 10% extra on a camera for the (sometimes) good advice you get from them and getting to hold and play with the camera there and then.... but when you know they are also going to sting you again on memory cards, cases, spare batteries etc on top, sometimes double or triple of the price of online....... internet all the way (unfortunately).

Hmm, most shops are open 7 days s week, no days off in the week/weekend?

Most small shops don't open on Sundays, so you are left with Saturdays to do any shopping. But even so, I rarely want to spend my weekends shopping when I can do it in an evening settled down with a glass of cider in front of the TV. The internet will kill the high street, we will be left with a few shops in each town for essentials and thats it. When you look at rent + rates + staffing costs small businesses just can't afford it, especially when you could have a website up and running for a few k at most that will pretty much manage itself and just leave you to advertise it and post out orders.

I think you're right, internet shopping will eventually kill the high street, but I don't think there's anything wrong with internet shopping either.
Personally I must be one of a very few women who absolutely HATE shopping and I would do all of mine online if I could! Unfortunately husband (who works very long hours in retail) likes nothing better than trawling round shops on his day off...most if the time we don't even buy anything either, completely pointless window licking.....but it keeps him happy :)

lol! I'm a bit weird in that I like food shopping, but detest clothes shopping. Clothes are something you need to try on, yet I order all mine online and just hope they are OK. That said I'm hardly the most fashionable person about! In the last year I grabbed a few t-shirts from Millets, and a few when in Wales in the summer, but other than that I think everyhting was online.

Not food though, I like to browse the aisles when food shopping and see whats about.

Am I right in thinking that most of the high street properties are owned by pension funds.... if so then the death of the high street could be the death of a lot of pension schemes too....

Cant see travel agents lasting another 5 years. They suit a particular generation but with the internet, their use is alas, redundant.

That said I went in to one in town and asked for the price of flights to vegas, I was already armed with the best price I could get on the internet, there wasnt any attempt to get close to it and so the price quoted was 200 quid more expensive for the same flight.

Prepare yourselves for (for example) the Guildhall being 'rebranded' as TESCOS and everything in it a dressed-up versions of their departments in store, i can see it now.

walking through the Guildhall will be like walking through a huge Tesco's but all they've done is fitted out each shops with their own priced goods, a traditional looking butchers but owned by Tesco's, a small independent looking coffee shop but owned by Tesco's, a bakery, clothes shop, fishmongers, need i go on...?

I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, if anything i'd prefer the openness of it all and 'creativity' behind the concept, but competition will be dead in the water.

it'll happen.

small print: i hate shopping in Tesco's, Sainsbury's all the way for me, if they did something like this i'd go!

Everything is connected

Pension funds do have a lot of interest in retail as do the large insurance companies ..

Pension funds also 'invest' in the FTSE listed companies like Capital, who in turn own centres like The Trafford, Arndale, Potteries, Metro etc etc

Pensions outside the public sector are set to fail - UK sterling is likely to fall against the US Dollar and other none Euro currencies, so matresses are also not a great idea.

Storing enough fuel and food for thirty five years can be problematic
