Another scam!!

just a heads up on another scam to not get caught up in.

Tonight I've received several text messages from number 07781470659. Examples are...

Microsoft access code xxxx
eBay single-use sign in pin xxxxx

This scam is designed to make you think that someone has tried to hack into such accounts. As always, log into the sites in question directly yourself and if there has been suspicious activity you will be notified there.

I think the scammers idea is that you reply by text or ring to find out what you should do with the code, then get hit with premium rates. I replied deliberately to test this theory knowing I've got free texts but no cash credit, and sure enough it failed to send due to insufficient credit. Therefore it can only be a premium rate service.

If you receive similar and want to be safe, you could always change site passwords. However I expect it's only necessary to ignore / delete the messages. Just DONT respond in any way.

A different phone scam. Calls from 08439 800 114. They will try to convince you that you have won a prize in a lottery and persuade you to phone them back & press "2" to contact them. This actually makes a premium rate call from your phone. Alternately they claim be able to help you make a delayed flight claim & other phoney stories to get you to call them. They seem to be making a lot of landline calls in the area but are also targetting mobiles.
